Meet Gigi Febres-Cordero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gigi Febres-Cordero.

Hi Gigi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a studying herbalist for many years, preparing herbal remedies and herbal body care products for myself and my family. However, I always struggled to perfect an all-natural deodorant that worked. While at the time, there were some on the market, they were all incredibly expensive and I felt it was unrealistic for the average person to afford a $20 deodorant stick. During a particularly hard time in my life, when I was fighting quite a bit of depression, I decided to start working on my old deodorant recipe. Every night for over a month, I would pour a glass of wine and stand over the stove melting down butters and oils and powders in different ratios until one night I figured it out! I perfected my all-natural deodorant. I offered it to friends, family, and colleges to try out. It was only a matter of days before everyone was raving about it and giving me some pretty incredible feedback. My employer at the time, being an entrepreneur himself, pushed me to start selling them. So I did ( for $9) and I have never stopped!

Four years later, I now offer over 30 herbal products to the community. This company, along with farming our small 3-acres, is now my full-time job. I can honestly say I have never been this happy in my life. I believe God brings us through the really difficult stuff as a means of preparing us for what’s on the other side. I have such a strong appreciation for everything in my life today, but I know this is just the beginning. I have many plans for the future of Luna Nueva Apothecary and Luna Nueva Farms! The sky is the limit!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an herbalist in the state of Florida is difficult. The laws and regulations make it very hard to do what I do. However, I have never let this stop me. I did a lot of research, met with a lot of attorneys and accountants, and others in this industry to learn what I needed to know. I now help other herbalists striving to start a product-based business navigate the difficult path. Like all small businesses, 2020 was a very hard year. We were projected to triple our sales when the Corona Virus shut down the world. Its been very interesting to watch people’s buying habits change. Our deodorant was our top-selling product since the beginning; however, that is no longer the case. Now our herbal supplements, especially those for immune support, are our top sellers. We were incredibly blessed to make it, though. Sales still aren’t what they were, and that’s totally understandable. So many people are struggling financially and spending $20 on body oil isn’t a priority.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
I believe I specialize in making herbal remedies accessible to the community. I do this through markets and events, selling my products at local shops, and of course, selling them online! I also strive to keep my prices low so more people can afford them. In a world full of toxins and chemicals, I believe people deserve to have access to products that are clean and free of them. A day doesn’t go by that I’m not dreaming up new products and ways I can be of service to those around me. I’m not quite sure what I am “known for,” but I can say what I wish to be known for. I wish to be known as someone who inspires others to put themselves and their health first. To take the control back and know that no one else, not even people in white coats, are going to do the work needed for them to truly be healthy and happy. I believe at some point, we gave our health away and that has done us a huge disservice. Only we can heal ourselves on all levels: physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

I’m most proud of how far I have come. Stewarding the land and caring for animals has been a long-time dream of mine that seemed so far out of reach. Seven months in and I still don’t believe I somehow made it come true. Being a farmer is hard work but is the best kind of hard work! Waking up before the sun and sweating all day with my hands in the dirt is a dream come true. It’s pure magic! I know hard work got me here and hard work will keep me here. I am very proud of the simple life I have built for myself and my family. I’d have to say what sets me apart is that I am a fancy farmer! LOL, It’s kind of a joke that our new friends out here have made about me. They even got me a shirt that says it. I definitely don’t let farm life get in the way of nice clothes, awesome jewelry, and of course, lipstick. You have to have the lipstick to be a fancy farmer!

What matters most to you?
My health! I’ve been on a three-year fertility journey, and while I am still not pregnant, I can say it woke me up a lot. I always considered myself to be healthy, but it wasn’t until I really starting looking into the true health of my body that I realized I had lots of work to do. Supporting my liver and my gut as a means of supporting my hormones is my number one priority in life lease days.
