Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Barnfield.
Hi Jesus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In the search for an opportunity with exponential growth, I moved to the United States at the age of 11 on Dec 11, 1997. I can remember the day vividly as if it was yesterday. The excitement of moving to this promised land also meant the realization that not only was I leaving my birth country behind but, more importantly, leaving my father and another family behind. As many immigrants do, this was a sacrifice made for the opportunity for a better tomorrow. That sacrifice is one that I think of often as I pursue my goals today. I’m a graduate of William R Boone High School in Orlando, Florida. Upon graduation, I immediately attended Valencia Community College while also working at several local organizations such as the Orlando Sentinel, Advent Health and David Maus Chevrolet before joining the company in which I plan to retire, New York Life Insurance Company. When I first joined New York Life as a brand new financial professional in 2018, my role was to help individuals and business owners with different areas of Financial Planning such as Risk Management and diversification of investments. After a short year as a Financial Professional, I was then promoted to Partner with our firm, where my current role is to hire and develop advisers for our company. I’m immensely proud of the work we do serving our community, helping guide others for a brighter future.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is always full of challenges. All of us in one way or another, face adversity regularly. We learn so much more from our struggles than from our victories. Smooth? Not quite. I had always chosen a difficult path for my jobs or careers seeking a larger return. From selling cars in 90 degree heat for many years while learning the automotive industry to starting over as an entrepreneur in the finance industry in which I had to build a network from scratch while at the same time learn this business; yet I was always willing to do what most individuals won’t so that in the future I can be in a position of leadership and influence. But the mindset is the key. Having a growth, optimistic mindset is how we accomplish our goals while overcoming obstacles along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
New York Life is an insurance based financial company with over 175 years of experience. Currently ranked #73 on the top 500 Fortune company, we are the largest mutual insurer in the United States. We have the highest ratings of any mutual insurance company in the country and hundreds of billions of dollars in Assets Under Management. Financial literacy is a concern in our country. We are great spenders, not savers. I have seen firsthand what not being financially prepared does to a family. I want to make a difference in the lives of others and help create generational wealth. As a Partner in New York Life, my responsibility is to grow our field force. Our agency is one of the pillars of our immense financial strength. However, what we do isn’t for everyone. I look for individuals who have a deep passion for helping others paired with a burning desire for success. At the heart of everything we do is the commitment to put our clients first.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
We are living a life full of purpose. Fulfillment should be what we seek. Our time on this earth is so limited, and we should spend our lives doing what makes us happy and doing what fulfills us. I’m at a point in life where seeing my loved ones happy, healthy, and together, especially with the global challenges we have faced recently, is what matters the most to me.
