Meet Justin May-Lawhon of Cabana Couture – The Art of Leisure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin May-Lawhon.

Hi Justin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Florida native born in WPB. Moved to NYC for college, where I attended Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. Lived there for 12 years. Somehow ended up working on Wall St and started a career in finance and banking. Did that for 7years and hated every minute of it, so I decided to move back down to FL. In 2013. I moved to Orlando, FL to be closer to family. This is where I somehow fell into the commercial outdoor furniture industry. There was an opening for an Orlando sales rep position for a commercial wholesale factory which was commission only. I took the position, and on my first site visit at a luxury resort, they asked me if we supplied cabanas. Naively I said absolutely we do! We did not. Come to find out, no one in the industry at the time was making custom, commercial grade, resort-style cabanas. After searching for a few years with no luck to find a company to supply the need for my clients, I decided to start my own company. We supply everything poolside from tables, chairs, loungers, umbrellas, and resort-style cabanas. All our products are custom, commercial grade, and made to order. We supply to all the major theme parks, waterparks, hotel resorts locally and nationwide. I designed every little detail in Cabana Couture from the logo, slogan, website, and all the marketing material we have today. This industry has changed my life. I left corporate America wearing full tailored suits punching the clock working for someone else and traded that in to wear shorts & polo shirts and working for myself, hanging out poolside at some of the best resorts in the world. My name is Justin May-Lawhon, my company is Cabana Couture, and we are The Art of Leisure.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth anything is easy. Every day there are unseen roadblocks and obstacles to overcome, On top of the everyday struggles with running operations for a business. Covid unleashed a series of problematic events on a global scale. Due to the Global Pandemic, we are still experiencing labor shortages, raw material shortages, and disruptions in supply chains worldwide. Global production for factories worldwide has been significantly affected, and we are still feeling these effects to this day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Cabana Couture – The Art of Leisure?
We specialize and manufacture custom, commercial grade, resort-style outdoor furniture & cabanas. We supply everything poolside and supply direct to all the major theme parks, water parks, hotel resorts nationwide. We are known for our custom work and ability to provide turnkey white gloves solutions for our clients. Tailoring our products to our client’s requests is what separates us from our peers. I’m pretty proud how that turned out. Legoland is also pretty happy which makes me happy to see my clients as enthusiastic about our product as I am.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
