Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Study.
Kaitlyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Around six years ago, I moved from the UCF area to the Downtown Orlando area and started dating someone from Winter Park. Moving from UCF, the Winter Park area and Downtown Orlando areas were so different and I loved them! The shopping, the park and everything that Winter Park has to offer is incredible.
While exploring the areas, I also recently decided to start a marketing agency. This was my new side-hustle and I knew that no one knew me so I needed to figure out a way to grow the exposure locally while doing it on a start-up budget. After being so drawn to the area, I decided to create a local account to promote the Winter Park area so people living here could experience and find new things and people who had moved away who still wanted to keep in touch could continue to do so. Every once in a while, I sprinkled in some information about my marketing agency to help gain recognition. After a while (and a lot of posts), it took on a life of its own. We tested different content, edited when we posted what we posted and I had a lot of great people helping me with it and testing different things over the years of growth. Now, the account has over 36,000 followers and is growing every day!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the struggles, in the beginning, was getting followers and growing the account so that people would want to follow it. Originally, we had to post manually for all of our content, and that was stressful. We couldn’t schedule out any social posts and we had to make sure we didn’t miss one because you can’t go back in time!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Becoming A Local helps companies advertise to a hyper-local clientele. We specialize in creating enticing and creative content to help our audience resonate and love your company/ product.
This company is “new” while still being old. I finally found some direction over the pandemic when I had more ‘brain space’ to think. I created a new company in February 2020 and finally had the time to find where we wanted to go while still having the account since 2015/ 2016.
Our approach to hyper-local advertising and the fact that we have marketing expertise too. We love sharing all of the local places that the area has to offer and feel that with our background, we bring a unique perspective to help companies thrive on Instagram.
We’re most proud that we’ve been able to take the accounts that we’ve built up to this level. It was a lot of work and took a lot of time, but I’m so excited about where we’re going!
We’d love for the readers to interact, share and let us know what else you’d like to see. We’re working on a lot of neat things to roll out soon but it’s always great to hear from the people who follow the accounts. We’d also love for you to tag us in images so we can share what you’ve been up to. We have more than 1! We have 5 that we’ve built up – one being Around Winter Park.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Keep going. There were so many times that I thought, “Is this even worth it?” Sometimes we’d lose more followers than we gained. Sometimes, we’d get negative comments about an image we’d post. Sometimes we didn’t have enough content to post. Whatever it was, I tried to think about the big picture and to keep on going.
