Meet Kelly Tellez of Revamp Cleaning Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Tellez.  

Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
It all started with only an idea from a conversation I had with my husband in March of 2015. We discussed how great it would be to earn more money and have more freedom, independence, and flexibility in our work lives by owning our own business. Nothing was planned or executed as he had a great paying job in the cleaning industry, as did I in customer service. As time went by, a cleaning business is what came to mind. I would sometimes think of the logo for the cleaning business and draw rough drafts of it, I thought of names it would have, and so on. Years later in February of 2020, during the pandemic, my husband was laid off from his job. He had 20-plus years of experience as a floor technician in the commercial and residential cleaning industry. Thankfully I continued to work, and with my income alone, we were able to subsist. Even though my employer, coworkers, and office atmosphere were great, I never truly felt fulfilled. My husband and I decided to open the cleaning business; to most, it was a delusional idea as it was during one of the most difficult times in history. Somehow witnessing so much financial hardship and loss close to us and all over the world, we felt the push to do it. I asked my sister to borrow money to buy a cargo van, but she gifted me the money instead! At that point, we felt it was meant to be. In May of 2020, my rough drafts and ideas came to life when I registered the business; we were fully insured, hired an accountant, we had the cargo van, equipment, and supplies. My husband began to offer our services to our neighbors and did the cleaning jobs; I did all the administrative side of it while I still worked my customer service job. Once we gained commercial accounts, I did the big overnight jobs with him. A year later, I decided to quit my job and dedicate that time to the business instead. Today we have many residential customers and commercial accounts like daycares, clinics, and schools. We are rapidly growing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I would say one of the biggest struggles was believing that I didn’t need to work for someone else to provide for my family. Letting go of a guaranteed and stable income was a big struggle as I felt dependent on it. Although my sister gave me the money to buy the vehicle I couldn’t count on her financially as she also achieved her success by working very hard and wasn’t able to help with more. Our savings ran out as there are so many expenses and losses during the first few years of a business. We didn’t have enough business capital to take out business loans. The management of the income is crucial as equipment needs to be repaired, and there are a lot of supplies and travel expenses for free estimates. The craziest part is that we started with zero customers! Gaining their trust and referrals came smoothly though as we provide quality work, and get the job done! Once we believed our vision, passion, integrity, dedication, experience, and trust in God were what we needed to succeed, it became a smoother road.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Revamp Cleaning Services LLC?
We have a cleaning system installed inside the cargo van with lines that reach inside buildings, houses, and apartments several stories high. Our hot water extraction system provides steam and water pressure up to 1,300 lbs psi (pounds per square inch) for a thorough, deep, and fast clean while disinfecting. It vacuums/extracts the dirty water simultaneously, so the surface won’t be left damp, allowing faster drying. We specialize in carpet cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, upholstery cleaning, stripping, and waxing floors. We are now implementing janitorial services for business offices and house cleaning. We serve all of Central Florida, and we get the job done! Before I was a business owner, I was a consumer. I know from personal experience how important it is to feel satisfied with the service and how much it took for me to use a service more than once or to refer that business to someone. On rare occasions, I felt the “wow” factor provided by a business. To me, that is extremely important, whether it be a restaurant, pet grooming service, party rental, dealership, or delivery service, especially when it involves someone having to enter my home which is my sanctuary. I want the process to be clear, and honest, I want to feel respected and valued, and I want to feel like a person, not just a profit or a dollar sign to that business. That is why I make sure to provide that to our customers, to have integrity, and respect with every customer every step of the way, I don’t take it lightly, just because it is a cleaning service. I value and give fair pricing to all, from the elderly lady in an assisted living facility who had an accident on her carpet to the customer who needs dusting in her million-dollar home. We are a family-owned and operated business; our reputation is most important, and it is an honor every time we are given the opportunity to enter a home or business to provide our services. I can proudly say most of our business comes from referrals, which is the biggest compliment we can get from a customer.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to listen to God and to stay focused on the dream He planted in my heart. If I had listened to acquaintances or family members, I wouldn’t have established the business, or I would’ve closed it down and gone back to an hourly job already. Many times, we see a crisis as a problem and the end of a dream when in fact, we should take advantage of the hardship to think outside the box and grow to our full potential. It is important to overcome the obstacles that come along the way, as this is what shapes our character; it is frustrating and at times, discouraging, but if we focus on the goal, we will overcome those obstacles. Once we understand we have value because of what we believe in and who we are, not what we have, we will accomplish our dreams. I listen to myself talk now, and I laugh because I sound as corny as I thought many others sounded when telling their stories and when they said: “dreams do come true.” I will say it though… I feel free, I feel accomplished, and my dreams are becoming a reality.
