Meet Keywe Davis of Stilettos Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keywe Davis.

Hi Keywe, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was in college when I found out I’m pregnant. I thought my world was over I was worried about money because I was on baby number 2. At only age 19, I needed to be able to provide for my children and immediately. So I decided I wanted to go back to school to become a Nail Tech 2011. Where I started my career as a Nail Tech. I got my license and started doing nails but only part-time. I felt so accomplished doing something I absolutely love.

Then in 2013, I married the love of my life the so much attack us so hard at first to break us up. The first month of marriage was the worst month imaginable but through prayer and love and commitment, we made it. Not too long after, I soon found out I was pregnant again with my little angel born on Christmas, I knew then I would have to do whatever to provide for all of my children. So I worked two jobs and did nails and hair to make sure that my family was secure. But that wasn’t enough for me. I felt like the job was hurting me more than it was helping. No time for my children long hours and only little pay. To barely be able to make ends meet. So in 2015, I made another decision, the best decision I could have ever made. I quit both my jobs and decide to be a momtrepreneur. Full-time entrepreneur, I admit it’s not always easy and sometimes I feel like quitting but I just remember God ain’t through with me yet. So I open a second business and God is always showing me as long as I put him first, I will always be the best me. I have been in business over ten years now. Thank God and five years full time no other job.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My life hasn’t been easy to say the least. And I can also say my life wasn’t so hard either I have faced many struggles and adversity and the most important thing is I never gave up. Dealing with being a teen mom and having to worry about if I have enough to provide for my children has always been my number one priority. What I try to focus on and keep in mind is instead of worrying about the problem, try to figure out a solution. And if you try to figure out a solution and nothing comes maybe it’s not meant to be fixed move on to something else. Also quick story I was having a rough patch with my business I didn’t want to do hair or nails anymore I was ready to quit everything. So I prayed and I honestly asked God to send me a sign because I didn’t want to do hair anymore and if it was meant for me to do he would show me a sign. Well, about a few minutes after I prayed, I heard a knock on the door and this guy ask me do I do hair. And I was like yes wow how did you know and he said barely able to speak English your neighbor told me and I need my hair braided. Well long story short, I did his hair for two years until he got a haircut.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is very important. As long as you start, your making progress. If you’re looking for a mentor, find someone that will hold you accountable also find influencers you look up to model yourself after and not copy but get ideas for content. Always be original just use others as motivation for things you want to achieve. I think what works best for me is I’m a talker. I talk to just about everyone who knows the next person you talk to maybe a potential client or investor.
