Meet Matt Blackard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Blackard.

Hi Matt, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got the idea for the Disney Coffee Blog while watching one of my favorite shows on Netflix, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” It’s a show hosted by Jerry Seinfeld where he interviews fellow comedians about their comedy routines over coffee at a diner or restaurant. I thought it would be fun to have a YouTube channel just like that, but inside Walt Disney World talking about Disney. I would just chat with friends while having coffee at one of the hundreds of places on property. My original channel name was “Drinking Coffee in Disney World.” Very soon after, I realized that I did not enjoy talking on camera or taking vlog videos around the parks. So I changed the concept of the site from videos to written articles/blog posts that are 100% about getting coffee in Disney, including the best coffee spots during your vacation, new special drinks, prices, secret menu coffees, reviews, local coffee roasters, and Disney coffee history. Two years later, each one of my 500+ blog posts is a timeline of so many coffees I have tried in the parks and tips on where to find your favorite coffee. I believe that your vacation is too short to drink bad coffee – and I love making people happy by keeping them caffeinated on vacation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started out as a vlog. After struggling with that format and not liking it, I decided to change the concept of to a written blog of articles. I have so much respect for people who can actually talk/vlog on camera while being watched by strangers. I would always forget what to say or make mistakes or feel like the people standing next to me were listening. After I stopped making videos, it took away all the pressure from creating content. I could go at my own pace and write articles whenever I wanted about any topic related to coffee in Walt Disney World.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my professional life, I have been in banking for 15 years. Currently, I work in the legal field for a technology company that provides banking software and hardware to companies around the world. You can find our company’s card payment terminals all around Walt Disney World.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
In terms of drinking and reviewing coffee in Disney World, it’s such an interesting experience to now have to make sure no one is around me while I remove my mask to drink! Also, I can no longer walk around while enjoying my coffee since you have to be stationary while eating or drinking. It is just a different experience now that you have to be so cognizant of the people around you and staying safe.
