Meet Nephthalie Bonny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nephthalie Bonny. 

Hi Nephthalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Nephthalie Bonny and I’m a 22 year old Haitian business owner who graduated from UCF, Spring 2021. My business though, was established during the summer of 2020. Ultimately, Hop Off My Beauty was created during the Pandemic. A time where a lot of people realized their gift for entrepreneurship. I have always had side businesses or creative hobbies, but it was nothing compared to how intricate Hop Off My Beauty currently is. 

The idea started off with being a skincare business… the first product being a Mango Shea Butter lip oil since I felt it was not a product that was currently being sold and was quite innovative. The other products included the peppermint lip scrub (one of my bestsellers to this day), a brown sugar body scrub, and a shimmer mist. 

I didn’t officially launch until August 2020, but when I did, I was met with many different challenges as this was the first official business I ran. 

As my business grew, I realized some products needed some tweaking and removed them, but this gave room to many other products and creative ideas that really shape the brand. 

Yes, Hop-Off My Beauty started off as solely a skincare brand but it blossomed into something more than that. Now focusing more on self-care, products range from art decor, lashes, and more. I see this business as a potential one stop – self-care shop and would love to see it flourish to sell many different types of self-care items. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth journey. I do everything myself. I had to learn Shopify and find the best color scheme and website layout for my brand. I think in the span of two years, I have changed my website format and brand color scheme at least 3 times until I became in love with the current one that I have now and will be keeping until further notice. I also market and manage everything, from promoting on many platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and even Tik Tok. It all can be fairly overwhelming especially when there’s certain sale goals that I set for myself, but I’ve learned to be patient and embrace the process of creating something that others appreciate.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have always had a creative vision. Apart from my business, I love to draw/paint, write poetry, and more. I figured that since I do have many creative talents Hop Off My Beauty should also emulate them in the products I sell and the services I provide. As to why my brand has items such as art prints and art canvases and also my poetry book Butterflies Are Not As Fragile. I don’t see Hop Off My Beauty as a monolith. It was built with many pieces of myself so it warms me when others can find themselves in it too or take inspiration from it. As the brand mainly focuses on self-care, I want my brand to showcase the arts within skincare and self-care, with aspects of self-love and motivation. As to why the motto is Skincare, Self-care, and Self-love. It is a true beauty to see yourself or likes/hobbies within a brand. I am most proud of sticking through with the upkeep of this brand and how far the name has gotten. I remember when I received an order from Canada, I was so ecstatic! I love it so much. All in all, I think it’s pretty self-explanatory on what sets me apart from others and the way I see the business world. I learned that my brand is more than an alternate stream of income, that it truly is something that I gave birth to. It’s a part of me and I believe others should have access to it too. 

We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking?
I think the major risks that I’ve taken is funding for my business entirely by myself while a whole pandemic was happening, and after graduating college, I was out of a job and in the meantime had to try and make ends meet even if it meant using my own money to advertise more to make more through Hop Off My Beauty. Yes, sometimes I wanted to give up. There were many periods where I neglected my brand since we all know we can’t truly grow without promoting ourselves, especially through many social media platforms. I just learned that at the end of the day, if I don’t take those risks now, I would need to take bigger risks, later on, to manage through life, so why not put in the extra hard work now instead of giving up or pushing it to the side? I have always seen myself as a risk taker, though challenging and the outcome being an unknown… it is way better than playing it safe. Creating this business was a risk, and it’s a risk that I’m definitely proud that I took.
