Today we’d like to introduce you to Pareen Merchant
Hi Pareen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Pareen’s vision was to open a salon that would provide a retreat for clients to relax and rejuvenate and a place where they will be pampered beyond their expectations. Pareen has worked, trained and lived in India, East Africa, London England, Canada. She has lived in the United States since 1993. Throughout her career she has continued to “re-invent” herself through education by attending classes in Europe, India, Canada and the US. With a masters degree in botany and zoology, Pareen has an indepth understanding of chemistry giving her keen comprehension of the chemistry of the products she selects. A master stylist, threader, a schwarzkopf color specialist, Medical Esthetician, Electrologist and Laser Specialist, Pareen has created an atmosphere of unparalleled comfort. “We strive to exceed your expectations as you relax and enjoy one of the 150 services we provide. We do not rest until you radiate with beauty and confidence!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although maybe not maybe challenges but because I have lived in several different countries I had to re-do my professional license due to the different requirements of each. Also with each move I needed to adapt to the unique needs of clients of each country because the needs of clients of East Africa were different than those of England and Canada. And probably most challenging, was that as I like to develop relationships with my clients I found it difficult to leave each of them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most proud of the ability to adapt and reinvent with the changing times! Especially in this industry where it is difficult for small business owners to survive. Having been in business since 1999 I have sadly seen many Salon’s and Spa close. I have to believe that our survival has been a direct result in our progressive attitude and the willingness to over and beyond for our clients.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Not to sound repetitive but my greatest risk has been the fact that I have moved so many times! With my husband, being a physician our moves were always dictated by his work and with each move I had to start over by re- building my clientele. Thus bringing on a great deal of uncertainty with each move.
