Meet Samantha Sloane-Keegan of SammiCakes and Cookies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Sloane-Keegan.

Hi Samantha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a hobby baker. I would make cookies or cupcakes for friends or mom’s group events and was always told how good my products were but never took them seriously. I took the advice of a friend in 2019 and went ahead and created a Facebook page for SammiCakes & Cookies but it was rarely used.

Fast forward to Feb. 2021. I was almost one year into my furlough as a Disney cast member. I was Crisis-schooling my two older children, had 2 in diapers, we hadn’t gone anywhere is almost a year due to having a premature baby and our sanity was holding on by a thread.

We had a family close to us experience an unimaginable tragedy so I decided to throw a bake sale fundraiser to help with their unexpected expenses. That bake sale was a pivotal moment within my company. I had to quickly create a brand with products, ads, an event, theme, business merchandise, and an online presence.

My baked goods were able to raise that family over $1,200.00 and I gained a small following on social media. Word of mouth spread from there and I have gone from my original 57 likes on Facebook to almost 3,000 in just a few short months!

I launched my website in May of 2021.

Day 1, I was hit with over 300 orders and as of August 2021, I was able to hire a fellow furloughed cast member to assist with order processing. We currently have a two weeks waitlist just to confirm an order and are booking into 2022!

I never imagined that my passion for baking would turn into what it has but I am so thankful that it has!

I am now able to stay home with my babies and do what I love!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Mom life balance – I am a mom first. I’ve made that very transparent on social media. Some days I answer my phone and you hear a crying baby in the background and other days, I have to stop what I’m doing and cuddle my toddler while we watch Frozen so order confirmations are delayed.

Finding reliable help. This has been one of my biggest challenges. I went through 4 assistants before finding the right person for the job. It can get overwhelming with the number of customers and volume of orders we take in.

Time. HAHAHA I have three days off in September. I would love to be able to just close my laptop at 5pm and call it a day but I receive (and respond to) customer calls, emails, and messages 24/7.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about SammiCakes & Cookies?
