Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanna Gilliard.
Hi Shanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I developed Oh Hunni because skincare was a factor that had been problematic for me and my family. When my son showed signs of excessive dryness, I searched for healthy solutions that wouldn’t further irritate his skin. Unfortunately, I had no luck and only found poorly formulated ingredients. When I reverted back to my roots of relying on home-grown natural remedies, I not only saw improvements in my son’s skin but was reminded of the impactful benefits of using all-natural ingredients. In an industry where there are ever-changing skincare trends and quick but harmful products, I knew that there was a need to establish change and return back to the foundation of all that nature has to offer. Oh Hunni is a skincare brand that not only cares for your skin as earth intended but educates in the importance of organic ingredients and awareness of what goes onto and into our bodies.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any business you will face struggles and I too have had my share. I am a party of one so it can be daunting at times, managing multiple aspects of my business. However, wearing multiple hats is something I take in stride and will appreciate even more when I have a team to back me up. The year 2020 did present a few obstacles. I had to switch my marketing strategy in order to stay visible within the community due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Luckily, I had already done my share of local markets in and around the Gainesville, FL and Tampa area. Navigating the market in this new found space, that we all found ourselves in, was difficult at first but Oh Hunni Skincare was able to prevail. I was fortunate enough to acquire retail partnerships with a few local boutiques and managed to build a fast growing online presence in the interim.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In 2019, I curated a brand that not only works to be the solution for several skin care issues but is effective through natural, non-toxic elements. At Oh Hunni Skincare,we are on a mission to offer products that help you return to the base of simple, elegant beauty with effective ingredients designed to make you feel luxurious in its natural-rooted state. With local honey as the foundation for my products, Oh Hunni Skincare aims to nourish and feed the skin’s natural barrier with nature’s own organic medicine. From luscious body butters, moisturizing beard balms, and gentle scrubs, Oh Hunni is committed to producing skincare that directly benefits your skin’s health and prosperity. With buzz-worthy combinations of essential oils, butters, and most importantly, local raw honey, you’ll be sure to make room in your skincare routine for these incredibly rich products. Oh Hunni Skincare continues to expand our business and remains consistent in producing high-quality handmade products, with love, that serve all skin types.
