Meet Suzette Berkhalter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzette Berkhalter.

Hi Suzette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I like to say I wear a lot of different hats. I’m a mami, wife, sister, daughter, friend and realtor. I started selling real estate in 2016 after leaving my ten year career as a legal assistant/paralegal. Once I had my first daughter, Aliyana, I realized I wanted to switch careers to have a more flexible schedule so I could continue to work, yet also be present as a wife and mother to my two beautiful girls. So, one day I took a leap of faith and enrolled in real estate school. Fast forward to today, it is now my passion and something I dedicate a lot of my time to. It has brought a fulfillment to my life that I could never replace.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not easy or smooth by any means! Haha. Not only did I become a realtor in 2016, that was also the year that I moved to Orlando. So I literally only knew my parents and one other person, which meant I had to hustle (A LOT) to meet people and build my business. Countless hours have been spent (and are still being spent) door knocking, cold calling, and hosting events such as open houses, first-time home buyer seminars and customer appreciation events.

One of my main struggles has been learning how to have a work-life balance, which doesn’t really exist. I have come to realize that it is a counterbalance and thankfully, my family and friends are understanding of my many roles. Other struggles have included selling real estate in a pandemic, learning how to live the entrepreneur life, constantly working on my mindset (this is a big one) and not comparing my success to other people’s success.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in residential real estate with a focus on first-time homebuyers. I genuinely enjoy helping others and being able to walk someone step-by-step throughout the homebuying process for the first time is very special and rewarding to me. I also work with sellers and move-up buyers.

I am most proud of being primarily referral-based when it comes to new business because it means the people I have helped in the past continue to appreciate me enough to refer me to their family and friends. Side note: Almost all of my past clients become like family to me. There’s just something about going through a real estate transaction, which is usually a very emotional experience, that bonds you in a unique way.

One thing I think that sets me apart is my active role on social media, mainly Instagram. That platform is where I am real, honest and open about both real estate and my personal life. It is an outlet for me to educate, entertain, and just be my authentic self which has provided me with many opportunities and a lot of amazing new relationships.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Some of my favorite books are The Millionaire Real Estate Agent, The Go-Giver, Seven Levels of Communication, and The Miracle Morning. Podcasts that I am currently listening to are Empire Building (so powerful) and Think Like a CEO.
