Rising Stars: Meet Adam Bentley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Bentley.

Hi Adam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. I grew up in the Novi/Northville area, which is located about 30 min outside of Detroit. I graduated college from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Business. After working for an advertising agency for a year out of college, I decided to leave the cold weather behind and moved to Florida. I have been living in Florida for a little over three years now. I currently work full-time as a marketing specialist and pursue my passion for photography on the side. I have always been into photography. I would always get disposable cameras as a kid. I was always excited to see how my photos turned out. I think not knowing how my photos turned out right after I took them has helped with my photography today. I had one shot to capture the moment. I’ve had my Instagram account since 2012.

However, it wasn’t until 2017 after taking a trip out to Hawaii with my girlfriend to visit my older brother who was living there. I took so many photos that trip and decided to post them on my Instagram. I was shocked at the amount of engagement my photos started getting. That was when I decided to take my passion to the next level. I invested in a better camera and got more gear to go with it. I also started really focusing on my Instagram account. Networking with other photographers, models and working as a marketing specialist has helped my account grow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Time has always been my biggest obstacle. Working a full-time job and only being able to focus on photography part-time can be very challenging. Scheduling photo shoots, researching places to shoot, exploring new areas is difficult as I am usually limited to only being available on weekends. Finding time to edit the photos/videos after a shoot. Traveling is a big part for my photography. 2020 has been a crazy year for everyone. I had trips planned that I had to cancel, which really slowed down the momentum I was building. Luckily, the state of Florida has a lot to offer in terms of photography. For me, staying organized has been key.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I mostly shoot nature, travel, and landscape photography. But, I have also started doing more portrait photography, hybrid film and music videos. I try to find the shot that when you look at the photo, you ask yourself, “how?” Some of the coolest accomplishments I am most proud of would be having one of my photos on Instagram reach over 32.7k people, getting recognition from verified artists on social media, and from just people who have reached out to me to tell me that my work has inspired them to get into photography. I feel what sets me apart from others is the style and the way I edit my photos. I like to add emotion and mood into my photos. It’s not just a photo but a feeling as well.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My friends and family have played a big role in my photography. Encouraging me, sharing my work, planning and taking trips with me. I’m very thankful for them.
