Rising Stars: Meet Anthony Taitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Taitt.

Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY in a Caribbean household. I began drawing during a very early ages and became my happy place in the world as I figured myself out. I continued diving into art throughout my adolescence and into high school where I was able to get into technology courses that peaked my interests. After high school, I decided to join the Navy in an effort to fund furthering my education. I was honorably discharged in 2009 from the United States Navy and immediately enrolled in courses at Valencia College, eventually graduating with my degree in IT from University of Central Florida. I spent the next ten years working in the corporate sector as an IT professional / Programmer / Data Analyst. During my time as an IT professional, I began my business and brand Funky3s Designs LLC. I began doing work for local business in Orlando providing digital design assets for their business needs as well as leveraging my technology prowess by offering web development services as well.

When the Covid pandemic started, it affected my day job by eliminating the position at the company I had spent the last seven years working at. This jolt was probably what I needed to reignite interests in what always made me happy, which was art. During the lockdown, I purchased a tattoo machine online, initially because I wanted to just try out a new art form I had always had interests in. My curious nature brought me to have more and more questions about technique as I struggled to find the answers practicing on my own. I eventually came across an artist’s work I admired on Instagram and brought myself to DM him about questions I had with tattooing. Those questions turned into an invitation to come and observe live in the shop. I studied under Justin Lewis (art handle @Crea8tiveSoul) for the better part of a year where I was able to gain much of the needed insights to become a professional tattoo artist all while working full time in various jobs I could find to make ends meet. I was able to finally earn my professional tattoo license in early 2021. I took the plunge into entrepreneurship at this point and quit my job in the IT field to pursue my passion as an artist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all. Some struggles along the way include:

– Learning myself as an individual, my desires, what makes me happy. It’s a lot harder than it sounds when you think about it long term and I think I needed to grow personally before getting over some hurdles

– The Covid pandemic was a great struggle during a very pivotal time in my life and affected myself and my family very strongly

– Learning financial literacy along the way was a struggle that I have learned more and more about with maturity, trial and error, and the internet!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a tattoo artist // graphic designer // web developer

I am known for colorful and detailed design work both digital and on skin.

I am most proud of my family for supporting me throughout my growth as a person, father, husband.

My attention to detail and care for others most often set me apart from others. It’s the small things that often count and are overlooked.

How do you think about luck?
I believe luck good or bad eventually comes from the manifestation of your own thoughts. I love to tell myself constantly “Everything is always working out”, and I truly believe that. The result is that regardless of the hardship I am faced with, I am able to pull through on the better side of it all in both my personal and business life.
