Rising Stars: Meet Dr. Loretta Faith Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Loretta Faith Harris.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Pahokee, Florida, affectionately known as “Muck City.” My parents are from the beautiful island of Jamaica. They instilled in their five children the importance of hard work and earning a good education. Growing up in Pahokee, I did not see a lot of entrepreneurs. Common careers were neighboring candy stores (my favorite), teachers, office clerks, healthcare workers, truck drivers, and pastors. Although I did not understand the true meaning of being an entrepreneur, I always knew that I wanted to make my own money doing what I loved. So, at the age of 12, I started my own hair business in my parent’s home. I became an entrepreneur with my mother as my manager. As I reflect, I was so blessed to have the support of my mother. She has been my biggest cheerleader to this day.

After graduating from Pahokee Middle-Senior High School in 1998, I attended the University of Central Florida and majored in Elementary Education. I entered the teaching field and taught intensive reading to sixth-grade students at Carver Middle School. I discovered a passion for teaching inner-city youth. In 2006, three years into my teaching career, I met in a tragic car accident that almost claimed my life. This was a very traumatic experience not only for myself but for my family who supported me throughout my full recovery. One year later after being on life support, in a medically induced coma, and surviving 15 life-threatening surgeries, I made a triumphant comeback!! So, as you can imagine, the vision for my life drastically changed.

In 2007, I established Triumphant Living Enterprises, Inc. to provide publishing and consulting services for business professionals and non-profit organizations, professional courses, workshops, and life coaching for individuals. I have been blessed with an excellent staff and business partners committed to delivering top-of-the-line products and services. We have successfully published five children’s realistic fiction chapter books, two young adult poetry books, and four adult authors. In addition, three of my books including the award-winning memoir and bestseller, The Journey Less Traveled: Choose to Turn Your Tragedy into Triumph that chronicles my story of triumph have been a gamechanger in the international market. Triumphant Living Enterprises eCommerce is designed to provide personalized and affordable products and services for our customers anywhere in the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an entrepreneur, there will be struggles along the journey. But, when you are walking in your purpose and have a vision for where you are going, even your struggles can be used to fuel your next move!! You are not made great for yourself, but for those you are called to serve. My greatest struggle has been finding a way to commit to all of the great opportunities. There have been times when I had to say, No to a few opportunities so that I could rest and rejuvenate. I’ve learned that self-care is the best care.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
One of my greatest accomplishment has been the establishment of Triumphant Living Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provide personalized care packages for families grieving the tragic loss of a child. I serve as the Board Chair with a dedicated Board of Directors committed to restoring hope and healing to families throughout Central Florida and the United States.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that our City Beautiful is growing and thriving. We are innovative and welcoming to people from all walks of life. We are the home to thousands of small business owners who are the backbone of our thriving economy. Collectively, we impact our community in so many positive ways. Because our city is so large, it may be difficult at times for new and upcoming talent to find their way and connect with potential clients. There is a need for more local incubators similar to SCORE Orlando, SBDC, and the National Entrepreneur Center where experienced business owners from diverse backgrounds can mentor and train budding entrepreneurs. I do my fair share by working with Coaches and Consultants to successfully launch their programs, attract ideal clients, and generate wealth.
