Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy RiveraRising Stars: Meet Lucy Rivera

Hi Lucy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lucy, I am 34 years old. I am married and we have 4 children. We are Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen, family owned and family run business. I have always had a passion for cooking and my family has always had a passion for eating. Naturally, feeding people has always been my way of showing love. After I married my husband and we moved to Louisiana, I became a stay at home mom who cooked all day. I would send Axel (my husband) lunch everyday to eat at work. Next thing you know his coworkers were offering to pay me if I would make them lunch too. Shortly after they were putting in lunch orders with my husband and I had a small hobby I was able to make money off of. Then we moved to Florida, decided to buy a food trailer and we opened, Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen. We became an LLC in April 2019, but didn’t have our Grand Opening until June 2019. We just made our first year during the pandemic in 2020. Looking forward to the years to follow. I couldn’t be more grateful to be where we are today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t know if I would say it has been a smooth road, but I will say it has been an exciting one. A struggle we did have after we opened, was being able to keep a set location to park our Food Trailer. After trying a few places we were able to find a location we hope to be at for a longtime coming. Infusion Tea was kind enough to rent there outdoor space to us and allow our customers to use there outdoor seating. I can’t explain how grateful and blessed we feel. College Park has been so welcoming to us and seem to be enjoying the Boricua Love we give in every dish!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a generational cook. My grandmother Lucy, taught me cook traditional Puerto Rican food. As her mother taught her. My specialty items are the frituras. I make each one to order. Well everything is made to order, but I love the feedback I get about how stuffed our fillings are. We are wellknown for our Alcapurrias and Empanadillas. I think what sets Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen from the rest is the Boricua Love you get everytime you visit.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising most people wouldn’t know about me, I don’t like cooking for myself. I would rather cook for a group.

    Lucys Puerto Rican kitchen is the best thing to happen in Orlando (College Park). My Familia and I have tried every restaurant that claims to serve Puerto Rican food and not one can come close to the authentic Puerto Rican food that Lucys serves. My Familia are loyal customers forever. Thank you guys and keep up the great work.
