Check Out Erica Shiffer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Shiffer.

Hi Erica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my business, Erica Kate Photography, in September of 2020. At the time, I was furloughed from my job due to Covid, and jumped into starting my business. I had studied entrepreneurship in college, and always had a love of photography. I began photographing families, couples, wedding, etc. Eventually I found boudoir, and fell in love with the art form. I am now exclusively a boudoir photographer, and work mostly from my private studio. I began my business in Winter Garden, and have since moved twice. Now in my third studio, I have an incredible space for clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As I have relocated twice, I essentially had to rebuild my business from the ground up multiple times. My biggest challenges have been building new studios and finding new clientele.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a boudoir photographer, I specialize in making women feel good about themselves. I deliver a personalized experience that empowers women to see themselves differently. Clients often come to me in a very vulnerable state. They may be nervous or shy, and I break down those barriers to give them a memorable and fun experience. My process is both physically and emotionally transformative. Every client gets professional hair and makeup along with access to our Client Closet, filled with hundreds of pieces of lingerie and accessories. I offer styling advice in addition to head-to-toe posing guidance that is flattering for every body type. The environment is safe comfortable, so it feels like a day chit-chatting with your new best friend. In a world where beauty standards put so many expectations on women, session day is a time when women can forget about their insecurities. It an uplifting way to help celebrate the season of life you are in.

I love being able to show my clients their beauty! The images we create together are permanent documentation that they can cherish forever. We do a same-day image reveal together, so we get to view all of the finished images right away. I always like seeing clients light up and be blown away by their images. I often hear comments like, “I can’t believe that’s me!”

I offer custom artwork so clients can enjoy their printed images in a keepsake album or wall art.

My artistic style is considered “dark and moody.” I am particularly inspired by harsh shadows that accentuate the lines and curves of the body. I love clean, simple sets, that allow the client to shine as the main focus. You are the artwork! I offer unique sets that cannot be found elsewhere, and create custom “looks” for each individual. Each person inspires me differently, and I enjoy highlighting their personality or incorporating personal props.

I am most well known for my dramatic style. Sometimes less is more, and sometimes more is more. I pride myself on my personal approach and ability to connect with clients. I have been told that a session changed their lives, and I am so honored to be part of my clients’ stories.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Believe it or not, I learn most of my techniques and approaches from photography communities on facebook.
