Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Parra.
Hi Karina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Astrid and I met when our oldest daughters started school in kindergarten when we live in South Florida. We became friends and helped each other with the kiddos. As they say, it takes a village. We have been friends for the last 11 years. We both have very creative minds and love putting together party’s. Astrid has worked in many variations of catering and culinary. Where I had started an Etsy business making party decor and such where I showcased my creativity. We both had put together many events for family and friends and realized we both had a talent for it. That is where Fromage & Sweets was born. Last June we made it official. We wanted to offer something unique so we decided to build our event cart from scratch. With no measurements or plans it took us 3 months but the cart turned out better than we ever excepted it to. We also kept all our fingers. We hope to create unique experiences during our clients events with our event cart, put together beautiful charcuterie tables and just bring our clients visions to life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting any business has its obstacles, we are both mothers with full time jobs so dedicating our time to our own business can be challenging. We have reached out to varies venues and have done a market style event where we showcased our cart. It was nice to speak to potential clients about our business. We received positive feedback about the experience we provide. We hope to obtain business from those events and to hear back from venues. Working with others local event businesses would be a blessing so we are just trying to get our name out there!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We create unique food experiences for our clients guest during their most important events. Our cart is one of the services we provide where our clients guest would come up to the cart and either make a customize mini charcuterie board to enjoy from the available options. We also provide a cake bar where guest would customize their mini cakes from cake flavor, frosting, toppings and sauces. It’s not just food but a fun and unique experience. Fromage & sweets can also create grazing tables of any size. Where we would provide all the food and setup for our clients guest to enjoy. Our tables look like a form of art. Guest will be wowed by the presentation. We are so proud to have finally taken the step to do something we both love so much. It never feels like work if you love doing it and that’s what Fromage & Sweets means to us!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Astrid is more of a risk taker than I am but that’s where I find that we balance each other out and make such an amazing team! Even though we had financial challenges to start we both worked as a team and figured it out together. My husband and our children are extremely supportive and even though working our business after already working our full time jobs takes us away from them they are very understanding. Offering to help when possible and never expecting anything in return. They are just proud of us that we took this leap!
