Hi Melanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Electric Diva Creations was born at the intersection of creativity, passion, and the pulsing rhythm of electronic dance music. Founded in 2015, we’ve spent nearly a decade lighting up the world — literally — with handcrafted fiber optic fashion and accessories that celebrate individuality and bold self-expression.
The spark behind Electric Diva Creations ignited early. As a child, I found joy in sewing, making delicate, lace-trimmed pillows and personalized cross-stitched gifts for friends. That creative foundation only grew stronger over time. In my twenties, while working as a bartender in vibrant nightclubs and after-hours venues, I discovered my love for EDM — a love that would eventually become the heart and soul of this brand.
Blending my early passion for crafting with the energy of the dance floor, I began designing wearable art that illuminates movement and spirit. Today, my designs are worn by customers all over the world, from festival-goers to performers — each one looking to stand out and shine bright.
With nearly 10 years in business and 74 out of 75 five-star reviews on Etsy, I’m incredibly proud of the loyal community that’s grown around Electric Diva Creations. That level of support reflects not just the quality of the products, but a deep commitment to customer care, creativity, and consistency.
As we approach our 10-year anniversary in May 2025, I remain inspired and excited for the future — and for many more years of lighting people up.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a learning curve for sure. I am a one person business and so everything relies upon me. The website, marketing, sewing, etc. It can be overwhelming at times. However, along the way I have honed my technique and have clear expectations of what I need to do with every order. Communication is huge. I am always looking for a better way to do things but do not let myself get hung up on the minutia.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
While running my business, I also proudly juggle roles as a mom, longtime bartender (35+ years), notary, wedding officiant, and seamstress. I’ve built this business from the ground up without loans or grants, using part-time work to fund my dream.
Electric Diva Creations has now reached customers around the world, and I’m proud to be recognized as a fiber optic fashion designer in a space that’s still incredibly niche. While many are familiar with LED and EL wire designs, fiber optic technology is often associated with limo roofs or starry ceiling panels — not wearable art. I’m redefining what’s possible and “breaking the ceiling” on where and how fiber optics can shine.
But more than the lights, what fuels me most is how my creations make people feel. That moment when someone’s eyes light up seeing one of my designs in person — that spark is everything.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk can be a lot of things; financial, reputation, creative, opportunity and time. Certainly, the financial risk is at the top of my concerns. It takes a lot of money to even start up with the components that make my creations, such as the fibers and light engines. The time it takes to make one large butterfly wing creation is approximately 34 hours. The price point to make it profitable yet still affordable is a huge risk for me. Will the creations hold up to the expectations of my customers?
I’m in a niche most people don’t understand yet — that’s an opportunity. I get to lead. I’m taking the risk to educate, inspire, and innovate.
It has absolutely been worth the risk. No one can succeed if they don’t even try.
