Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Schaefer.
Hi Bianca, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I came to the U.S. from Brazil in 2007 to attend college, where I studied motion graphics. While studying, I worked as a nanny, which deepened my love for working with children. In 2011, after my son was born, everything shifted. I started taking countless photos of him to share with my family back home, and through that, I discovered a true passion for photography.
What began as a way to stay connected with loved ones turned into something much bigger. Friends started noticing my photos and began asking me to take pictures of their kids too. Little by little, I realized that capturing these genuine, joyful moments—especially with children and families—brought me so much fulfillment.
From there, Bia Schaefer Photography was born. I’ve grown my business organically over the years, focusing on creating warm, natural, and heartfelt images. Photography became not just a career, but a way for me to connect with people and preserve the beauty of their everyday lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road—like most creative journeys, mine has had its fair share of challenges. Starting a business in a country that wasn’t originally my home came with a learning curve, from understanding the logistics to building a network from scratch. I was also a new mom at the time, trying to balance motherhood with learning the ins and outs of photography and entrepreneurship.
There were moments of self-doubt, especially in the beginning, when I didn’t know if I could turn this passion into a real business. I had to learn everything on my own—how to shoot professionally, how to edit, how to market myself, how to price my work—and that takes time and resilience. But every challenge helped me grow, and I’m grateful for all of it, because it led me to where I am now.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in family, babies and children’s photography, and my work is very much rooted in capturing real, heartfelt moments. I aim to create images that feel natural and full of life—whether it’s a quiet connection between a parent and child or kids running freely in golden light. I’m known for my warm tones, playful approach, and the genuine emotions I’m able to draw out during a session.
What sets my work apart is the way I connect with families, especially with children. Having worked as a nanny and being a mom myself, I understand how to interact with kids in a way that makes them feel comfortable and seen. I never force poses—I let the moments unfold and guide the session with ease and empathy.
I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Many have become repeat clients and even friends over the years, and being able to watch families grow and document those chapters is such an honor. My goal is always to create not just beautiful photos, but meaningful experiences and memories that last a lifetime.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is about doing what you love in a way that aligns with your values. It’s not just about how many sessions I book or how many followers I have—it’s about the impact I make on the families I photograph. If my work helps someone remember a beautiful chapter of their life, if it brings joy or tears in the best way, that’s success.
It’s also about balance. Being able to grow a business I’m proud of while still being present as a mom and living a life that feels true to me—that’s the kind of success I strive for every day.
