Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Bean.
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in London, I spent my summers in Spain, where my love of travel truly began. My days were spent playing on the beach from sunrise to sunset, but it was the ritual of getting dressed up for dinner at night that I loved the most. Spain’s vibrant culture, warm evenings, and endless plates of late night tapas left a lasting impression on me. To this day, the scent of sizzling garlic instantly transports me back to those sun-soaked summers.
As I got older, travel became more than just a passion. It became a way to connect with people, cultures, and stories around the world. I began my career in hospitality and eventually launched my own destination management company, which gave me firsthand experience creating experiences from the ground up. That role taught me how much intention and care it takes to design something truly meaningful.
After more than a decade in the travel industry, I founded my own Virtuoso agency, Katie Bean Travels. I wanted to create a space where luxury travel felt personal, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in connection. Today, I lead a growing team of advisors, and together we design unforgettable trips for clients around the world. Every itinerary is a reflection of my early love for the details, the ones that turn a vacation into a lifelong memory.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but the lessons along the way have shaped who I am as a business owner and a leader. In the early years, I felt like I had to say yes to every client, even when the fit did not feel quite right. Over time, I learned that we are not for everyone, and that is a good thing. Our most successful trips are with clients who truly value our service, trust our process, and understand the level of care we bring to each itinerary.
I also ignored red flags early on when it came to hiring. I learned the hard way that keeping someone on the team who is not aligned with the values of the business does more harm than good. It affects culture, client experience, and momentum. Now, I trust my gut and make those hard calls sooner.
Another turning point came when I realized I did not have to travel to every corner of the world to be an expert. For years I felt like I needed to see it all firsthand to prove my credibility. A few years ago, my husband said something that really shifted my thinking. He told me, “They are not using you because they think you know everything. They are using you because they know you care and will do everything in your power to make it a trip to remember.” He was right. That has become the foundation of how I lead and how we serve.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Katie Bean Travels?
Katie Bean Travels is a luxury travel agency that creates highly personalized itineraries for discerning travelers around the world. We specialize in thoughtful, concierge-level travel planning with a focus on meaningful experiences, five-star service, and deep destination expertise. Whether it is a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon, a multigenerational family trip, or a wellness retreat, our goal is to make every trip unforgettable.
We primarily work with a group of VIP members who travel often and are looking for a more proactive and intentional approach to their travel planning. We begin with a detailed bucket list meeting where we dive into their travel dreams and priorities. From there, we create a beautifully branded, forward-looking document that outlines suggested destinations, ideal timing, signature experiences, and our favorite resorts for each place. This allows our clients to plan 2 to 3 years in advance and always have two to three trips to look forward to.
In the past, many of our clients were booking last minute and struggling to get the rooms or suites they really wanted. With our proactive model, they are now prioritizing travel as part of their lifestyle and feeling more inspired, less rushed, and better taken care of.
What sets us apart is how we care for our clients. We listen closely, ask the right questions, and design trips that reflect what matters most to each individual. No two trips are ever the same. We are also known for our strong relationships with the world’s top hotels, tour partners, and guides, which allows us to offer exclusive amenities and VIP access that cannot be found online.
I am most proud of the trust we have built with our clients and the way our brand reflects a balance of warmth, intention, and excellence. Travel can be beautiful, transformative, and grounding, and we are honored to help people experience that in ways that feel completely personal.
At the end of the day, our clients are not just booking trips. They are investing in memories, in time well spent, and in the kind of experiences that stay with them forever. We never take that lightly.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I would not describe myself as someone who hit the ground running. It took me time to find my rhythm and define what success looked like for me. I was always social, creative, and focused on making sure the people around me felt good, had fun, and felt included. I may not have known exactly what I wanted to do at first, but I always knew I was meant to build something of my own. I just needed to find the path that truly fit.
In high school, we had a career day where we were asked to dress as the profession we wanted to pursue. I wore a light teal skirt and blazer suit and said, confidently, “I want to be a boss.” That was the extent of my plan at the time, but in hindsight, it captured the spirit of what was ahead.
My first business was a fashion boutique in Baldwin Park. I poured everything into it and learned what it meant to be a part of the community. Even though the store has been closed for nearly fifteen years, people still tell me they own pieces they bought there. What stays with me most is not the clothes, but the way people describe how the space made them feel. They never felt rushed or sold to. They felt welcome, seen, and comfortable. That experience shaped the way I view service.
In many ways, travel is the same. It’s about connection, trust, and creating something that feels personal and meaningful. It is not just about where you go. It is about how the experience makes you feel. That is what we aim to create for every client, every time.
