Meet Nathan Munford and Joey Hernandez of The Milk District (Orlando)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Munford and Joey Hernandez.

Hi Nathan and Joey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We had both been friends for some years who both shared a love for thrifting/vintage/retro/nostalgia/ all things cool and old. We had worked together at a pop-up market where we hosted a Fill-A-Bag at our booth (the guests buy a bag for $10 and fill it up with as much clothing as possible) and it was a huge success. We had a line of people at the event which I had never seen before. We knew there was a special quality to the format of selling clothes that way. We were looking for a spot to host another event like that when we stumbled across that building on South St. The idea of having a place to sell clothing and have Fill-A-Bags whenever we wanted just made sense to us. Funk’s was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A big struggle has always been finding the clothing to put into our store. We do not receive donations for any of the items we sell and rely on sourcing everything ourselves. We buy everything outright. So finding an ethical and consistent connection for clothing to supply that store every week has been one of our biggest challenges.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Trusting the vision and staying true to ourselves. We both have the same goal in mind and know what needs to be done to accomplish that goal. Having someone you can trust and rely has been one of the largest reasons for our success so far.
