Conversations with Chris Gillyard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Gillyard.

Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was given a Polaroid Snapshot Click camera from my mom at the age of 13. Then I started taking photography classes in high school in my sophomore year. I got really good at it taking photos of people surfing at the beach plus activities at high school. Then, I was asked to photograph the high school yearbook. This opened up an internship for photography at Disney that led me to a 10 year photography career at Disney shooting a wide range of photography from television production, weddings, conventions, commercial, head shots, and products. These are the daily photographic challenges where you learn quickly at a big company. This lead me to starting my own photography company in Orlando for over 20 years now capturing commercial photography, weddings and events, corporate, portraits, products, food and architectural.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Constantly keeping up with the best equipment. The correct way to advertise along with the need to reinvent myself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Having a career in photography for over 25 years, photographing some of the coolest weddings at Disney, being eligible for a Guinness World Record holder photographing the largest in attendance wedding of 40,000 where the ceremony took place on a parade float.

What sets me apart is Cinematic lighting, an eye for fashion and having a personality that is fun and charismatic.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Watching my dad paint big commercial signs which motivated me to lean into art. This motivates me today with my art.
