Hi Maytee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Maytee Hernandez. Since I was very little, I always had an inclination toward the beauty world, not knowing it would become my passion. At 28 years old and with 3 small children, I began studying Basic Cosmetology at Modern Hairstyling in Carolina, PR. I will always remember how on my second day of theory, I realized that every word was food for my spirit. I told myself; this is my passion. It was like a personal discovery. Sometimes I think that my age and my responsibility as a mother compared to the other students helped me to be more focused, disciplined, daring, and entrepreneurial. I loved the challenges and transformations. I finished the course in 18 months and decided to return to Kissimmee, FL. In 2010, I started working as a stylist providing home services in Kissimmee, FL, and nearby towns. With much love, I ordered my first business cards, and my mom gifted me my first Intro Kit of color. I met many people, visited many houses, and many people also visited my house. In the process, I had many different jobs and attended to clients in my free time. I was always afraid of not being able to support my family solely relying on work in the beauty industry. Many challenges and obstacles, but I never gave up. I always stood out for having well-groomed hair and I love giving advice, recommendations, and also constructive criticism.In 2016, I rented my first chair in a barbershop for $25 a day. At that time, I still had another full-time job, but I wanted my own space and to stop working from home. In 2017, I decided to quit my full-time job and began to invest in my professional growth as a stylist. During that time, I started receiving continuous education with different beauty professionals, and that hunger for more and more knowledge and evolution began to grow. Nowadays, I am an educator and professional stylist. I love giving what has worked for me; I love to motivate and demonstrate that it is possible. Today, in the year 2025, I live grateful and fortunate, recognizing the gift and the deposit that God has placed in me. The gift of highlighting the beauty of every girl and woman who sits in my chair. Being able to empower and connect with so many people. I work with my heart and all my good energy, always giving it my all. Grateful for every person that God has placed in my path.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been filled with many challenges. One of them was having 3 small children at that time and a mind trapped in fear and worries. Occasionally I think that I missed opportunities because of the fear of starting. Working from home was definitely a big challenge. It was uncomfortable, many times I had to take my children with me. Additionally, I worked during the client’s time. Financial challenges, health challenges, and I think the worst of all was fear, not believing in your ability to execute.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Professional Stylist and educator. Standout in blonde hair. As well as techniques of Balayage, Highlights, Coloring, Extensions, hair reconstruction, hydration, hair loss, among other techniques. I am recognized for my passion and love in everything I do. My honesty and commitment at the moment of providing a service. My attention to the client and their needs are important to me. I feel very proud to be an innovative and persevering person. I am a woman of faith. Well, I feel that one of the qualities that distinguish me from others is my honesty. I am a very transparent woman. I am very dedicated and detail-oriented in my quality of service. I always challenge myself. I love being able to transform lives through hair.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Honestly, I think that the people I interact with know me quite well. Since I am an open book. But perhaps people who follow me and do not know me personally… I would tell them that I am a very joking and cheerful person. I am mischievous. Since I was little, many people think that I am very serious. But that is only to those who know me. And if they don’t know, I love God very much and I live in gratitude.
