Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Andreina Tapias.
Hi Maria Andreina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are María Andreína and Juan Pablo — a husband-and-wife team from Venezuela who built everything from the ground up, together.
Before launching our current businesses, we had physical retail stores in 3 of the most important malls in Orlando. At first, things looked promising, but like many immigrant entrepreneurs, we faced unexpected challenges that led to failure. The collapse of those ventures left us with over $70,000 in debt and what felt like zero options.
But instead of giving up, we pivoted.
In 2017, we launched Mia•Mia, right from the bedroom of our rented apartment. Our dream had always been to shift into e-commerce — to build something scalable, flexible, and aligned with the digital world. I’ve always been passionate about personalized accessories, especially items that bring people a sense of emotional connection and protection. That’s how we started: crafting custom pieces under the Keepsake Accessories concept.
Over time, we noticed a recurring request from customers: they wanted those same accessories, but adapted for medical or identification purposes. Many shared how hard it was to find medical ID products that were functional and stylish — something they’d actually want to wear.
As a new mom, I truly connected with that feeling, because I understood just how important these types of accessories could be. I became obsessed with the mission of making medical accessories that are personal, beautiful, and meaningful.
That’s when Mia•Mia found its true identity — offering stylish, life-enhancing accessories that blend form and function.
We operate exclusively online, and our main sales channels are Amazon, Etsy, and our own website.
We started with one machine in our garage. Then it became six. Then we ran out of space. Eventually, we were blessed to purchase our first property, and later another, both located in Downtown Kissimmee, where our production spaces now operate.
In 2018, we expanded with the launch of Pawnimals, a brand for custom products for pets. Later, we created FamGraving, focused on branded gifts and custom branded merchandise for realtors and businesses.
Throughout the years, we’ve been fortunate to reach some incredible milestones:
• In 2023, through FamGraving, we fulfilled a custom order for the Office of the Vice President of the United States.
• That same year, we were invited to speak at the University of Central Florida, sharing our story and teaching a class on Etsy and e-commerce to business students.
• Most recently, in April 2025, we were pre-selected for Walmart’s Open Call, successfully passing the first round to present Mia•Mia to their team.
What started with two people in a small apartment now powers a team of 15 — 10 locally and 5 remotely and supports multiple 7-figure businesses, generating 6-figure monthly revenues.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, not because it was easy, but because we never stopped. We rebuilt our lives, not just from zero, but from below zero. And we did it with faith, hard work, and an unbreakable belief in our purpose.
Because when your mission is rooted in love, creativity and resilience… there’s no limit to what’s possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, it’s been anything but smooth. We are immigrants, that by itself is not easy. We’ve had ups and downs. Our journey was filled with failure, debt, and uncertainty. As I previously wrote, before launching our current businesses, we owned physical retail stores in major malls across Orlando. When those businesses collapsed, we were left with over $70,000 in debt and no clear path forward.
We were immigrants, with limited resources, trying to rebuild not just a business, but our lives — from less than zero. We started Mia•Mia from with no guarantees. Juan Pablo, my husband, had to work as an Uber driver while I stood at home trying to make the brand work in the beginning. Every dollar mattered. Every mistake felt huge. There were nights when we questioned everything.
We had to learn everything from scratch: how to navigate e-commerce, how to market online, how to fulfill and scale orders while wearing all the hats. As parents, we also had to juggle our responsibilities at home while working late nights and weekends to survive.
But what kept us going was our vision. We knew we had something meaningful to offer, and we refused to give up. One obstacle at a time, we figured it out. Today, our team has grown, our systems have matured, and our brands are thriving — but those hard beginnings shaped the way we work, lead, and connect with our customers.
We’ve been impressed with Mia•Mia Brand, Famgraving and Pawnimals. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mia•Mia, FamGraving, and Pawnimals are three online brands we built with love, intention, and a deep understanding of the power of personalization.
Our core brand, Mia•Mia, specializes in stylish, wearable identification accessories, particularly medical ID products that empower people with chronic conditions, allergies, disabilities, or special needs. What sets us apart is that we don’t just create functional items — we create pieces that people feel proud to wear. Our products are highly customizable and designed to reflect both identity and dignity.
Famgraving focuses on branded gifts and custom merchandise, especially for realtors, businesses and professionals who want to leave a memorable impression through high-quality, personalized details.
Pawnimals caters to the pet community, offering customized pet tags and accessories that are both adorable and built to last.
We are 100% e-commerce based, operating across Amazon, Etsy, and our own website, with clients all over the U.S. and internationally.
What truly sets us apart, beyond our products, is that we are a deeply family-driven business. Our team isn’t just hired, it’s made up of the people we love. My husband’s sisters, my own sister, my mom, my sister-in-law and my dad all work with us. We’re a tight-knit family building something meaningful together, and we take immense pride in that. Every product that leaves our workshop carries that spirit of unity and care.
At our core, we believe that personalized products have the power to connect people — to moments, to memories, to meaning. That’s what drives every piece we create.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Resilience has been the most important quality in our journey, the ability to keep going, even when everything tells you to give up. As immigrants, we’ve had to fight harder for every opportunity. We’ve often felt like outsiders, like we didn’t belong, but we never let that stop us. We kept moving forward, fueled by our dream and a belief that it didn’t matter where we came from, only where we were going.
Another key to our success has been the love and strength of our family. For us, family is everything. We’ve built our business not only as husband and wife, but as a team surrounded by siblings, parents, and relatives who believe in the same mission. People often say it’s hard to work with your spouse, for us, it’s been a gift. We genuinely enjoy working together, and it brings us closer as partners, parents, and business owners.
One of the things we’re most grateful for is having created a business that allows us to spend more time with our kids, and to model for them what it means to build something with purpose, with heart, and with family at the center.
At the end of the day, we believe success is not about perfection, it’s about showing up, over and over, with love, vision, and the courage to keep going, no matter what.
