Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Stuart.
Hi Alexis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Alexis (but, you can call me Lex), founder of LexTakePix – a photography business servicing Central Florida and beyond with a mission to tell stories through photos. From as young as I can remember, I’ve always been a storyteller. As a child, I’d often put pen to paper, telling stories through poetry as I observed the world around. As I got older, I learned to tell stories in other ways, like photography! When I was a junior in high school, my dad had bought me a camera after I relentlessly begged him for what seemed like forever. It was right around that time, that I missed the opportunity to audition for a production at my church, so the Director, wanting to still include me, asked if I could take photos. What started as a hobby, slowly but surely, became a passion! I then started taking photos in my high school yearbook and newspaper classes, practiced on friends and those generous enough to pay me while I used photography to fundraise for mission trips, and eventually went on to take Photography in college.
As a freshman, I was voted “Best Photographer” at the 2013 Ember Awards for my college, but it wasn’t until my Sophomore year that I really started taking the craft seriously. My roommate at the time had just gotten her first DSLR and had turned to me for advice. That was just the dose of friendly competition I needed to finally learn how to fully shoot in manual.
In 2014, I was a second-shooter for my first wedding. I didn’t shoot my next one until almost two years later… and only did 1-2 a year for the next few years. In 2016, I launched a volunteer Photo & Film team for the young adult ministry at my church, which turned into a Full-Time job at the end of 2017 as Communications Director. Aside from marketing and social media, some of my roles there consist of planning themed promotional photoshoots, leading a team of volunteer photographers, and morore.
In 2020, when most photographers had a decline in bookings, ironically my side-hustle took off. Couples were trusting me with smaller, more intimate weddings. To date, I’ve photographed over 60 weddings, and collaborated with over 200 clients!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Looking back, I’ve realized that some of the hardest clients I’ve worked with were the ones I tried to “cut a deal” for—only to end up selling myself short. I’ve bent over backward to please clients who didn’t value my time, which taught me the importance of setting boundaries and knowing my worth.
Imposter syndrome has also been a constant battle. I don’t think there’s been a single year where I haven’t questioned whether my work was good enough or second-guessed the quality and experience I provide. Finding an editing style that felt true to me was another challenge—it’s always evolving, but I strive to maintain consistency while still growing creatively.
But through it all, I’ve grown so much. Every challenge has pushed me to refine my skills, trust my creative voice, and build a photography business that truly reflects my passion. It’s been a journey of persistence, learning, and faith—but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Lex—an adventure-loving, God-fearing, thrift-obsessed poet who just so happens to experience life with a camera in her hands. Storytelling has always been at the heart of who I am, whether through writing or photography. From a young age, I found myself documenting the world around me, and what started as a creative outlet turned into a passion-driven business.
I turned my name (LEX) into my brand—LexTakePix—and though it’s a play on words; it’s also a reflection of my approach. I don’t just take photos, I capture moments, emotions, and stories that last a lifetime.
As a photographer, I specialize in capturing love stories, lifestyle moments, and travel content in a way that feels natural, warm, and timeless. My own sappy love story gives me a unique lens for capturing others, and I’m known for making people feel comfortable in front of the camera.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built through photography. Some of my clients started as strangers but have become lifelong friends. Seeing my work featured by brands has been an incredible honor, but more than anything, I love delivering galleries that make people feel something.
What sets me apart? I blend professional quality with a deeply personal touch. I wholeheartedly believe photography is more than just snapping pictures—it’s about storytelling, preserving memories, and creating an experience that leaves you feeling seen and celebrated. Whether I’m crafting content at my 9-5 as a Communications Director or capturing love through my lens, one thing remains the same: I’m all in.
Beyond photography, I still find time to invest in my first love—poetry. I’m a performance poet and #SpokenWordEvangelist, using words to inspire, encourage, and share my faith. My dream is to publish a book—a compilation of poems I’ve written over the years—titled LexBeFrank, as a play on my name and a tribute to my father, Frank, who passed away in 2015 to brain cancer.
What makes you happy?
Spending time with my husband makes me the happiest—whether it’s cozy movie nights in bed, Disney days, or traveling the world together. In our (almost) five years of marriage, we’ve explored places like Alaska, Savannah, Texas, Canada, London, and Paris, and every adventure has been even sweeter with him by my side.
Above all, Jesus is my ultimate source of joy! My faith is the foundation of my life, and nothing compares to the peace and happiness that comes from my relationship with God. Going to church, being part of a faith community, and growing spiritually bring a deep sense of fulfillment that nothing else can replace.
Life is full of incredible moments, but for me, happiness is found in love, faith, and making memories with the people who matter most.
