Daily Inspiration: Meet Lindsay Gildea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Gildea.

Hi Lindsay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in 2008 after graduating from cosmetology school. My first role was as an assistant to a global color educator, which gave me a strong foundation in the basics and the discipline it takes to thrive in this industry. From there, I moved to a corporate salon, where I really learned the importance of structure, consistency, and professionalism. But it was when I transitioned to a multicultural high end salon in Winter Park that my career truly transformed. I spent 10 years there, growing not only in my technical skills but also in understanding how to work with a wide variety of hair textures and complex color theory, and how culture plays a role in beauty. Over time, I realized I wanted to take everything I’d learned and create my own space—one that celebrates individuality and allows everyone who walks in to feel safe, seen, and free to express themselves fully. That vision has really become the heart of my work today at Asylum Hair Studio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely was not a smooth road for me. Starting my own salon suite was one of the most challenging yet rewarding decisions I’ve ever made. As a young single mother to three sons, I was balancing not just my career, but also the full weight of raising a family. On top of the everyday struggles, I went through a devastating flood that took my home and most of my belongings. That experience could have broken me—but instead, it pushed me to bet on myself. I realized that if I had made it through all of that, then I was capable of building something bigger than just a salon.

I wanted to create a space that reflected everything I had been missing in the hardest times: peace, safety, and the freedom to express who you are. That’s what inspired my salon suite—a place where people don’t just come for hair services, but where they leave feeling seen, beautiful, and uplifted. Every part of my journey—both the struggles and the strength it took to overcome them—shaped the business I’ve built today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist who specializes in color and cuts, with a passion for turning hair into art. I’m known for creating bold, vibrant looks—everything from rainbow blends to prism color. To properly do vivid hair you must have expert color correction and blonding services. One of the things I’m most proud of is being classically trained, which gave me a strong technical foundation. I’ve taken that structure and added my own creative twist, which allows me to bring unique visions to life while keeping the hair healthy and strong.

What truly sets me apart is my versatility and deep understanding of different hair textures, needs, and styles. I work with a diverse range of clients, and I’m intentional about creating a space where everyone feels welcome and seen. Whether someone is coming in for a bold transformation or something more subtle, my goal is always the same: to make people feel beautiful, confident, and fully themselves.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I do not do apps, books or podcasts for inspiration, what helps me best is my community. The amazing people from different walks of life that I come in contact with behind the chair inspires me and many of my business practices and tactics have been learned by the many examples I come in contact with.
