Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The inspiration for Flora Essence started one day when I was in the shower and I was doing my regular routine. I noticed that all of my products were packaged in plastic bottles and then I got out of my shower to do my after shower skin care routine, only to realize that it was all packaged in plastic bottles as well. So I started online shopping for eco-friendly self-care products but everything was so expensive. I figured I could make my own products and that’s when I decided I wanted the world to also have access to affordable eco-friendly self-care products because taking care of the Earth should be easy and inexpensive. Taking care of the earth means the earth taking care of you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest struggle i’ve had to face is finding the right audience. Not everyone is consciously aware of the threat that the self-care and beauty industry has on the pollution of our planet. 400 million metric tons of plastic waste is produced every year, over 120 Billion Units of packaging made every year is produced by the Personal care and Beauty industry. Together we can create a more sustainable life for ourselves and future generations!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I like to look at Flora Essence, not just as another self-care brand. But as a step towards a cleaner earth. I think i find beauty in knowing that my brands morals and foundations root in just simply showing love to the earth. My motto is “Taking care of the earth means the earth taking care of you.” Meaning by using Flora Essence products, not only are you using an eco-friendly alternative that helps dilute the pollution statistics, but the earth is also showing you love through its natural benefits found in the ingredients that make up my products.
How do you think about happiness?
Life makes me happy. While that might sound broad and vague, “Life” includes the people around me showing me support and encouragement through this start up, the strangers on the internet who share my story and morals, the positive reviews that make it all worth it, even the constructive criticism that helps me tweak and perfect a product, waking up every day and living life knowing i’m helping the earth live a longer, healthier, cleaner life is what makes me happy.
