Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahmina Tofader.
Tahmina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the world of henna began with a deep love for art and culture. I was always drawn to the intricate patterns and the beauty of self-expression through body art. What started as a hobby—doodling henna designs on my own hands or close friends during family gatherings—quickly turned into a passion.
The more I practiced, the more I fell in love with the history, meaning, and creativity behind each design. Encouraged by positive feedback and growing requests, I decided to take my passion seriously and turn it into a business. Now, I get to share this beautiful tradition with others, one design at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road. In our culture, no one sees Henna as a profession. If you do make up as a profession, people will call you a makeup artist. But if you do Henna as a profession u will never be seen as an artist. When I started Henna as a profession I faced lots of criticism. But I never stopped. I want to make being a henna artist more of a respectable profession So the artist can be inspired to join this fascinating field of work too.
When I first started doing henna, it was just a passion — something I loved, But turning that love into a business? That’s where the real challenges began.
I remember my first few clients — the nervousness of whether they’d like my designs, There were times I questioned if I was good enough, especially when I’d scroll through social media and see artists whose work seemed flawless. Pricing my work was another struggle. It felt awkward charging people for something that came from the heart — until I realized my time, effort, and years of practice had value. That realization didn’t come overnight. It came with experience, encouragement, and honestly, a few hard lessons.
Today, I look back and feel proud. Proud of every design I doubted, every event I said yes to, every client who trusted me, and every challenge that pushed me to grow. The road wasn’t smooth — but it was worth every step.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Hi, I’m tahmina Tofader. Known as Lisa. a passionate henna artist with a love for tradition, storytelling, and intricate detail. What started as a creative hobby quickly blossomed into a journey of self-expression and connection — and I’ve never looked back.
I specialize in bridal henna, creating intricate, detailed designs that tell a story — not just through the patterns, but through the energy and care I put into every piece. Whether it’s a full bridal set or a delicate minimalist design for an event, I always aim to make each client feel seen, beautiful, and celebrated.
What I’m most proud of is the connection I build with the people who sit in my chair. Henna isn’t just about the art for me — it’s about the experience.
I think what sets me apart is my attention to detail and my intention behind every design. I don’t just “apply henna” — I create moments. I listen to my clients’ stories, their preferences, and even their nerves. Every pattern I draw is custom, meaningful, and crafted with love.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting with my cousins during weddings or Eid, waiting eagerly for our turn to get henna.
I always used to ask my cousin sister to do my henna. When it started to fade I used to redo the design.
Looking back, I realize those moments planted the seed. What started as childhood wonder slowly turned into a lifelong love — and now, I get to recreate that magic for others.
