Inspiring Conversations with Alvaro Alves-Lazaro of Al’s Gelato Ice Cream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaro Alves-Lazaro.

Hi Alvaro, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started our business back in 2018, and bought our first ice cream truck. When we started I built a route and drove through out Orlando selling packaged ice cream. I had nearly 100 options of ice cream novelties to choose from and was doing really well. After a year I sold that truck that was small and very old and bought a new one a bit better. With this truck I started making sundaes also and this was when Covid hit us. At that time it was a bit difficult for my customers because they were not working and they were home. I got really busy and was selling more of the items that I made instead of packaged ice cream novelties. I was getting a lot of good feedback from the customers and I started getting invitations for birthday parties and private events. At that time my truck was giving me lots of mechanical issues, so I sold that one and got a more modern and bigger one. With the new truck at the time I stopped doing the route I had and just doing events throughout central Florida, I was getting invitations from everyone my ice cream gelato sundaes were getting very popular. We do food truck night events, private events, corporate events, birthday parties, weddings, music festivals, we have one 14 awards that we have one for our gelato dessert sundaes. We have created something totally different in our category of frozen desserts. Most of our cakes that we use are baked at home by us, we also make some of our gelatos in small batches at home, that’s what makes us special with our creativity. Last year we bought our brand new truck which is really big, this truck toke us to a new level, where we offer much more items and we got more creative, check out our instagram page als_gelatodesserts, we have some unique items such as Italian donut filled with gelato, chocolate chip cookie cone, Crême brûlée, tiramisu, Dubai chocolate gelato, vegan gluten free options as well. Check out our story page for daily locations near you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it hasn’t been easy, when I started I had no knowledge about the business, but a lot of hard work and dedication, that’s what makes the difference

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We do ice cream gelato that’s our specialty, we are very creative with our gelato sundaes that we serve, a lot of our sundaes are served with cheesecakes, brownies, tres leches, tiramisu

What makes you happy?
I’m very happy because I started with a small beat up truck and a small route, and today I have a brand new truck that’s really nice and I invested $130,000.00 and through out central Florida there’s nothing like it, and what sets us apart from everyone else is our quality ingredients
