Today we’d like to introduce you to Carliss Jones.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started taking photos when I was 10 years old with my first camera, a Kodak 110. I remember saving up my allowance to buy it. My oldest sister was my first portrait client, and after that initial session, I was hooked on photography. The idea of capturing images that could last a lifetime and beyond fascinated me. Over the years, I’ve watched photography evolve with technology and endless possibilities. For the past 50 years, photography has been a significant part of my life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Wow, what a journey! I faced challenges along the way, but my faith in God helped me realize that photography is one of the gifts He has blessed me with. During my 20 years in the Marine Corps, there were moments when I had to set the camera aside to focus on my duties. Spending quality time with my wife and kids was also a top priority for me, something I wouldn’t compromise on because that time is priceless. Still, I came to understand that when you’re passionate about something, you should strive to get better every day, and that drive kept me moving forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own a photography studio in St. Cloud, FL, specializing in families, branding portraits, birthdays, maternity, and sports portraits. I’m particularly known for my portraits and birthday sessions photos.
I take great pride in how much I’ve grown as a photographer over the years. Being a member of the Professional Photographers Association (PPA) has given me the opportunity to learn and connect with some of the best photographers worldwide. I’m dedicated to making every client’s photography session an enjoyable experience. My goal is to ensure they share their positive experience with family and friends, which I believe sets me apart.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to keep learning and growing as a photographer. Also, treat others the way you want to be treated.
