Hidden Gems: Meet Angie Kantor of Angie’s Tables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Kantor.

Hi Angie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was on Broadway for over a decade and being an artist has always been who I am! In my fun/down time I created a super club called Dinner Chez-Nous and it was there that I found another talent in creating beautiful Tablescapes. I made the decision to leave my career and chose to become a parent (i have three small children just over a year a part) and when the pandemic hit I realized how much I truly missed and loved hosting/entertaining. The creative in me was dying and so I created Angie’s Tables, a Tablescape in a box. I thought if I could provide the design and curate the items for my customers than maybe more people would entertain in their homes. And away I went and learned at LOT about A LOT in the process! My family and I decided to leave the State of New York and made the move to Florida where my company transitioned from boxes to an Event Designer. I create parties and events for under 150 people and have loved every minute of it. I am excited to see it grow and evolve while still being a Mom to three very busy little humans.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think creating anything and putting it out into the universe is ever a smooth road. I remember the feeling of failure when I first started and today I have the constant feeling of ‘is this good enough for my client.” The artist in me will always question and have doubts but because I’ve known that feeling for most of my life I’ve learned where to place that energy and that is into the work. The other struggle that I see is constant comparison of my work or ideas because of social media, which again I choose to look at in a very different lens. I choose to be inspired and tag people for their inspiration. I’ve had people copy my work and not do that and it’s very hurtful but using social media as a platform, it’s bound to happen and again it is a free space for all. I’ve always said this and truly believe in it, that their is enough pie for everyone to eat and so I go back to creating and focusing on me and my journey and executing my ideas.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Angie’s Tables?
Angie’s Tables is my event design company that I continue to grow slowly and continue to expand my portfolio with new clients. I am different than most because of my background in Broadway, TV/Film where I have been able to develop an eye for details and for the bigger picture. I love working with people and my goal is to get their vision out on the table so that we can create magic together. I find most people think very linearly and my job is to guide and support their vision but then bring it to life. I am a very small company but do not let that deter you from the big ones. I am a work horse and do more than most people can and that makes me different from others. I also work for a Financial Firm in creating their conference events once a month and that is helping me grow in dealing with bigger groups of people. Finally, I am a Mom first and foremost. I have three small, very busy children who keep me on my toes every single day. I love to work and juggle my life/work balance very well. I am personable, kind and understand my clients needs and wants. I work harder than most and will stick to their budgets. I love to learn and will continue to be the best version of myself.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am a risk taker and have been all my life which is how I was able to make my career on Broadway a dream come true by the time I was 25. I left home at 17 to pursue that career and did it all on my own with countless rejections and submissions of VHS tapes! I am not afraid of rejection (even though I strongly dislike it) and I continue to move forward even when I was told NO. Starting Angie’s Tables was scary and unknown as nobody was doing that in the USA and learned from my mistakes. Moving to another state not knowing a soul and now almost 4 years later I have the most incredible community by my side. I think taking risks is important especially when it’s out of your comfort zone because we never truly know our limitations until they are tested and all of a sudden you are capable of more than you thought.
