Hidden Gems: Meet Ryan Lusby of Webway Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lusby.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve had a passion for business and entrepreneurship for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid, I was always coming up with business ideas and looking at the world through the lens of possibility and potential.

That entrepreneurial spirit has stayed with me throughout my life. I spent a couple of years working as an EMT, which gave me a strong appreciation for helping people in meaningful ways. I also worked in project management, where I learned how to bring structure, clarity, and follow through to complex ideas.

Eventually, I started my own lawn care business. That experience gave me a firsthand understanding of what it’s really like to build something from the ground up. You have to wear every hat, figure things out as you go, and put everything on the line for your business. It also gave me a deeper respect for other small business owners who are out there doing the same thing.

At the same time, I’ve always had a love for technology. I began teaching myself how to code, diving into web development and digital tools out of pure curiosity. That curiosity quickly turned into a passion. The more I learned, the more I saw how I could combine that technical side with my entrepreneurial mindset to not only build something of my own, but to help others do the same.

That journey is what led to the start of Webway Studios. It’s been about more than just building a business, it’s about using what I’ve learned to support others with theirs. That mission continues to drive everything I do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think anyone really has a smooth road and mine has had more than its share of difficult chapters.

After working as an EMT for a couple of years, I had to step away for my own mental health. I was dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and depression, something that took time, effort, and support to work through. It was one of the lowest points in my life, and recovery wasn’t easy. But I made it through and eventually moved into project management, where I spent the next 10 years across two different industries.

Then Covid hit. Like many people, I was laid off when everything came to a standstill. That’s when I made the decision to move my family from New Hampshire to Florida. With no one hiring at the time, I started a lawn care business out of necessity to pay the bills and support my wife and daughter (and now our son too!). It was tough, but it worked. The business grew, and I had the help of an amazing guy named Dave. We worked side by side under the Florida sun, took on bigger jobs, and built something that was really starting to take off.

Then, suddenly, Dave passed away from a stroke. Losing him was incredibly difficult. We had grown close, and his passing forced me to take a hard look at my own health, my future, and what I truly wanted for my life and my family. That’s when I began the transition into doing work I was passionate about, combining my love for business, creativity, and technology into what eventually became Webway Studios.

There have been plenty of other challenges along the way, but I’m grateful for the path I’ve walked. Every struggle, every pivot, every tough decision has shaped who I am and what I do today. It’s given me purpose and a deep respect for the people I get to work with because I know first hand how hard it is to build something from scratch.

As you know, we’re big fans of Webway Studios. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Webway Studios is a creative digital marketing studio built on the belief that small businesses deserve big brand quality.

We specialize in website design, branding, content creation, SEO, and social media management that is tailored to help businesses grow with confidence and clarity. But beyond services, what we really offer is partnership. We work closely with our clients to understand their goals, challenges, and audience so that everything we create actually moves the needle, not just looks good.

What sets us apart is that we’re not just here to “make things pretty.” We’re strategic, responsive, and grounded in real world experience. I’ve been on the other side of the fence. I’ve built a business from scratch out of necessity, I’ve bootstrapped, and I’ve had to make tough calls. That insight shapes how we approach everything we do. We don’t just hand over a logo or a website, we build long term relationships and help clients navigate the bigger picture of their digital presence.

Brand wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. Our clients know they’re not just another number in a queue. They have a dedicated team that cares, communicates, and shows up. It’s personal for us. Behind every business we work with is a family, a dream, and a vision and we take that seriously.

Webway Studios exists to help business owners feel confident online, attract the right audience, and stand out in their industry without getting overwhelmed. Whether someone is just starting out or scaling up, we meet them where they are and provide solutions that are as thoughtful as they are effective.

At the end of the day, we’re not just building websites or brands, we’re helping real people grow what matters most to them. That’s what drives us every day.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite (and funniest) childhood memories is when I tried to start a business selling rocks to the neighborhood kids. I was in elementary school and thought I was being super entrepreneurial. The twist? The rocks were from their own backyards. I didn’t see the issue at the time, I just saw an opportunity. When my dad and stepmom found out, they had me return the money, and it’s been a running family joke ever since. Looking back, it was my first shot at entrepreneurship—creative, a little questionable, but definitely memorable.
