Exploring Life & Business with DK Otis of DfilmK Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to DK Otis.

DK, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2021, my husband and I were both working 9-to-5 jobs, barely seeing each other due to our opposite schedules. I would leave early in the morning, and he’d head to work in the evenings—our time together was almost nonexistent. At the time, he was an amateur photographer, and I had a background in videography. We decided to take a leap of faith and build something together.

We created a business profile under the name DfilmK Productions, a brand I had originally started in 2018 to film weddings. In May 2021, we landed our very first gig in the Orlando area—followed quickly by two more. Excited and full of ambition, we packed up what little we had and moved to Orlando with nothing but hope and big dreams.

Once there, we began networking and started as second shooters for various photography and videography companies. Slowly but surely, we built our portfolio. Today, we’re proud to have loyal clients who return to us year after year. During that same time, we also created a DIY photobooth, which turned out to be a huge hit at events. It quickly became a staple of our early bookings and helped us gain traction. Eventually, we upgraded the booth into a more professional setup that we still offer today.

Our journey has led us to the world of sports broadcasting, where we now work as broadcast operators for the Orlando Magic and Orlando City Soccer Club. We’ve also joined the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, where we’ve had the honor of being named a preferred photographer.

Looking back, none of this would have been possible without that first opportunity—or the courage to pursue a new life together in a new city. Every step has shaped us into the professionals we are today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every road to success comes with its challenges—without them, there’s no room for growth. For us, one of the biggest hurdles was acquiring the right gear. Financially, it was tough to invest in the equipment we needed while also figuring out what truly worked best for our style and workflow. Our photobooth, which we ran for two years, was a huge hit but eventually became financially demanding to maintain at a large scale. We still offer the service today, but in a more streamlined, manageable way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets us apart from others is our ability to be true artists. We tell stories. Period. My husband has “the eye,” and that’s something not everyone has. It’s the ability to see the scene, to frame the emotion, and to capture the essence of a moment in a way that feels cinematic. I believe that’s why our clients remain so loyal. They trust us to deliver something they couldn’t have imagined themselves or different.

We present events in a more storytelling fashion, and I’m often blown away by the way he brings scenes to life. It’s one of the reasons we work so well together. We share the same creative vision, the same “eye,” and the same passion for what we do.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Totally! I’ve started a YouTube channel focused on supporting businesses and events by helping them gain visibility on social media. It also serves as a way for me to continue developing my skills in producing, directing, interviewing, filming, and editing. It’s more like a passion project!

I offer this service at no cost because it allows me to work on my own terms and explore my creative process without external constraints. Typically, I collaborate with event hosts or business owners either by connecting through social media or by obtaining a media pass. The goal is mutual promotion and exposure for both sides.
