Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Orjuela.
Hi Maria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Maria Orjuela, and from a young age I felt that the world took on a different meaning when I looked at it through a camera. “The first time I held one, I realized I wasn’t just taking photos… I was keeping little pieces of life that would never happen again.” That fascination with capturing authentic moments was the beginning of a journey that, over time, became my greatest creative project.
In 2020, in Orlando, Florida, I decided to take a leap of faith and founded Libertad Creativa Studio, a photography agency with a natural and bohemian style that strives to go beyond the perfect image: to capture essence. “For me, photography is a mirror of the soul; it’s not just about lights and frames, but about real emotions.” The mission of Libertad Creativa is to share, through the art of photography, lessons on caring for animals, protecting the environment, and cultivating greater self-love.
The path was not without challenges. Investing in professional equipment, perfecting my technique, and finding my personal style required countless hours of work, learning, and dedication. Yet, each challenge strengthened my commitment to providing a service that not only meets clients’ expectations but exceeds them.
Today, Libertad Creativa Studio works with people, pets, and brands who want to tell their story through honest, warm, and vibrant images. From intimate portraits to corporate sessions, each project is treated as a unique experience. “My mission as a photographer is for every person, animal, or brand to see and feel themselves reflected in their photographs; to look at them and relive not just the moment, but the emotion.”
Looking ahead, I dream of taking my lens to different parts of the world—exploring cultures, documenting once-in-a-lifetime moments, and creating a visual bridge between people, animals, and places. “For me, photography is a way to celebrate life… and that’s a celebration I have no intention of stopping.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a photographer and mother, one of my greatest challenges has been finding a true balance between my creative passion and my family role. Photo sessions don’t always align with school schedules, and the best light of the day doesn’t wait for the household routine to be in order. There were moments when I had to choose between staying up late editing or getting enough sleep to take my son to school the next morning with a smile. I learned to manage my time with almost surgical precision, to say “no” to projects that didn’t align with my priorities, and to understand that every photo I capture is also a reflection of the life I’m building for him.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Photography with Purpose at Libertad Creativa Studio
At Libertad Creativa Studio, my camera is more than just a tool to capture images—it’s a bridge to inspire, educate, and transform. As founder and photographer, I created this space for children and young people to discover the power of photography as a language that speaks of care, respect, and love.
Every project we undertake is guided by a clear mission: to teach the importance of protecting animals, caring for the environment, and fostering self-love. Through workshops, photo outings, and creative activities, participants learn to see the world with curious eyes and a conscious heart. Because when a child learns to appreciate the beauty of nature, capture the nobility of an animal, or look in the mirror with kindness, they are planting seeds of change that will last a lifetime.
At Libertad Creativa Studio, we believe that a photograph doesn’t just freeze a moment—it can spark awareness.

My Favorite Books That Inspire My Work and Life
As a photographer and advocate for animal and environmental care, I always find inspiration in reading. These are some of my favorite books that have deeply influenced my perspective and mission:
“The Moment It Clicks” by Joe McNally: An essential book for photographers who want to master technique and visual storytelling with sensitivity and creativity.
“The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben: A fascinating work that reveals the intelligence and deep connections between trees and the ecosystem, reminding us of the importance of caring for nature.
“Animals Make Us Human” by Temple Grandin: A sensitive and scientific approach to animal behavior that has helped me better understand the beings with whom we share the planet.
“The Gifts of Imperfection” by Brené Brown: A powerful book about self-love, authenticity, and the courage to show ourselves as we truly are, which accompanies me both personally and professionally.
Each of these titles fuels my creativity and strengthens my commitment to a more compassionate and conscious world.
