Exploring Life & Business with Bayli Holcomb Kayla Holland of StyleWorks Hair Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bayli Holcomb Kayla Holland.

Hi Bayli Holcomb, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Bayli is from Bristol, Florida, located in between Tallahassee and Panama City. I always knew I wanted to be a hairstylist. Most think being a hairstylist is just standing behind a chair, applying color, however, there’s so much more to it. The time you share with your client while they’re in your chair, you’re their friend, their therapist and if needed their shoulder to cry on. I’ve developed so many lasting friendships with my clients that I’ll cherish forever. Not once while growing up, did I ever imagine I would move away from my hometown or my close knit family. However, when you fall in love, it’ll take you anywhere. In 2020 that landed me in DeLand. Soon after moving, I started working at StyleWorks Hair Studio and knew from that moment that would be my future. I give all the glory to God and my parents. Without God, I wouldn’t have had the courage to pursue buying and having my own business. My Daddy has owned his own business for the majority of my life. Because of him, I grew up knowing the sacrifices and dedication that comes with owning your own business. My Mama is always in my corner supporting whatever decision I bring to the table. Without her encouragement I know I wouldn’t have ever gotten as far as I have. Pursing this dream of owning a salon and watching it come true with my best friend by my side, makes it so much sweeter.
Kayla is from Hagerstown, Maryland. I have two beautiful daughters that are my world. I started in high school, being focused on something positive and something I knew I could make a career out of helped me stay focused and make better choices of how I lived. It’s been 17 years now and I love it more now than ever. Being able to meet all kinds of people hearing stories and learning from all walks of life through the good and bad days of their life I have learned a lot about life in general from basic coffee orders to how to raise kids and financial independence to just being a positive influence. Being a hair stylist some days are easier than others mentally and physically but when you know you made a difference in someone’s life it changes it all. A simple haircut to many could save another life’s depending on how they feel about themselves and the dark place they are at. That’s why I love what I do and haven’t given up. And now being able to give back to the community give back to younger stylist so they can grow and prosper to make a better living for themselves and family means the world to me.
StyleWorks means so much to the both of us. We met at the salon 4 years ago. We weren’t too sure if we liked each other at first because we have two completely different personalities, but over time we became really close, built a friendship that’s turned into each other’s chosen family. Soon, we started talking about what we wanted out of our careers and the end goal was the same. We knew having our own salon and building it together would be an amazing opportunity. So as the previous owner spoke of retirement it just seemed right to keep the legacy of Style Works going as we create our own within.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been easier than we imagined it would be. Being business owners has its own challenges but the good has always outweighed the bad.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those just starting out in the beauty industry, we encourage you to be patient. Success takes time and hard work from the beginning to the end. Don’t listen to the people who discourage you from this career choice. The beauty industry is one of the most rewarding fields to go into. If you have the patience, heart and want to make individuals feel their best, then you never have to question if this is the right choice for you.
For those that dream of owning their own business one day, don’t give up. If we have learned anything in this journey, it’s better to take the chance than to always wonder “what if.” Chase your dreams, work hard, be kind and don’t let anything get in your way.
