An Inspired Chat with Reinaldo Costales of Oakland FL

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Reinaldo Costales. Check out our conversation below.

Reinaldo , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’m avoiding is the constant push to say yes to everything. I’m learning that sometimes the real win is in setting boundaries, focusing on the most meaningful goals, and letting go of the noise. It’s not about avoiding responsibility, it’s about protecting my energy so I can give my best where it really matters.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Reinaldo Costales, and I’m the creator of El Boricua Tequilero, a platform dedicated to sharing my passion for tequila and the rich culture behind it. Through my page, I aim to educate, inspire, and connect people with the history, artisanal processes, and unique experiences that make tequila such an iconic Mexican spirit. I bring an authentic perspective as a Puerto Rican with a deep respect for Mexican traditions, blending both worlds into engaging and approachable content. Currently, I’m focused on growing this community, creating educational and entertaining content, and exploring new ways to bring the world of tequila to more people.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My wife saw me clearly long before I truly understood myself. She recognized my strengths, my potential, and my drive even in moments when I doubted myself. Her belief in me has been a constant source of motivation, pushing me to take risks, chase my dreams, and grow into the person I am today. She’s not only been my greatest supporter, but also the one who helps me see the best version of myself

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure has held me back the most. For a long time, I hesitated to take big risks because I was worried about making mistakes or not living up to expectations my own or others’. That fear kept me in my comfort zone, but it also limited my growth. Over time, I’ve learned that failure is not the end but part of the process. Every setback has taught me something valuable, and now I try to see challenges as opportunities to grow rather than threats to avoid.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me but it’s the version that’s most focused on inspiring and connecting with others. What you see publicly reflects my true values, passions, and personality, but like everyone, there are layers that only those closest to me get to see. I believe in being authentic whether I’m online, in business, or in person, so what you see is always rooted in the real me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think what people might most misunderstand about my legacy is that it’s not about business, achievements, or public recognition it’s about my family. To outsiders, they might see success in terms of projects I’ve built or goals I’ve reached, but for me, my true legacy is in the love, values, and support I’ve shared with my closest family. Everything I’ve worked for has been with them in mind, and I want them to feel proud, cared for, and inspired long after I’m gone.
