Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah O’Neill.
Sarah , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been the type to have fun with home and DIY projects. Sassafrass Designs was born after I made shirts for my oldest daughter’s horse show in 2019. The shirts were so fun to make and a new addiction was quickly realized for me.
To this day, my favorite thing to do is bring a blank tee to life with a custom design.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running your own small business does not come without challenges but when it’s just you…YOU have to figure them out. And I do. There are still things that I am learning. That is part of the fun for me. That every day is different. There is something I can always be working on.

My custom shirt business works with individual orders, special event groups up to bulk orders with schools and other small businesses. I love working with an individual on a custom idea they come to me with. The reward is the end product when they love what we created together.
It’s also very rewarding to work with small businesses. I offer a huge discount to fellow small businesses when they order in bulk. Wearing your logo on a tee is the best form of advertising, in my opinion. I can use a logo they have already or together, we can create your own.
Nothing is better to me, than seeing my custom tees out and about. I work with local school to provide shirt options for their spirit shop with PTO’s and I love when I run into a student wearing my tees! It warms my heart.
Being the organizer of big parties can be a hard task. To help the main person in charge I have a special orders page on my website. I put together a link for them to share with their group so each person can place their own order. It saves a lot of stress for the organizer and helps keep the ordering process easier for everyone involved. I offer group discounts as well. I have done this for sports teams, teachers with their grade level shirts, cruise events and even reunion events. I love to work with large parties.
How do you think about happiness?
Aside from being with my family and making memories with them….my small business does make me happy. It allows me to work from home. I love that I have a flexible schedule to do what I need to do and what I like to do. Happiness, business wise, is when I meet someone that has ordered from me or recognizes my name. Also, seeing my shirts out in public. Nothing beats that feeling of YAY, I created that!
