Today we’d like to introduce you to Syrita Morgan.
Hi Syrita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In my final year of college, I became enamored with the study of law, while taking a communications law class. I thought to myself, “I would love to do this for a few years and get a law degree! How much fun would that be??” Around that time, I also became curious about the type of person who I would become by going through the adventure of law school. I knew it would change me, though I had no idea how and to what degree.
I also had hobby interests in holistic wellness and exploring consciousness. I wanted to find my way to contribute to the expansion of consciousness on the planet. My friends and family suggested that I become a naturopath, or life coach, or health coach. Though, when I looked at those fields, I could see that there were so many practitioners who could benefit from someone like me- someone who treasured their industry, respected their non-logical and non-linear ways of operating, and was happy to engage in the nuanced legal details that would help them flourish.
My approach to law school was- like most of my life- unconventional and an adventure to say the least. Throughout law school and my early years of practice, I relied on alternative wellness tools such as flower essence therapy training, Access Consciousness energy work, internal inquiry-based transformational coaching, yoga, pilates, nutrition coaching, and sound therapy. With those tools, I created a lifestyle and habits that allow me to enjoy the challenges of life and my profession; and I feel truly and unconditionally grounded and happy as I grow.
After 5 years of gaining experience in a major nationwide company, I was excited to start my own law firm – Southwind Law- to provide business, contract, and trademark services to founders of holistic wellness businesses.
Becoming a business owner myself is yet another adventure that is transforming me. Every day, it deepens my appreciation for wellness and consciousness- which I see as paths to true freedom.
And I feel so lucky that I get to spend my free time learning more about how to meet the legal needs of wellness businesses. Seriously… how did I get so lucky? I am able to help people who are creating real change on the planet. I take continuing legal education (CLE) courses tailored to healthlaw, alternative medicine, and the business needs of wellness companies – topics I find fascinating! I attend wellness industry conferences and events. And I continue to engage in the wellness community as a student of consciousness.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Following my own path and trusting my soul has not always been ease. One thing that has contributed to ease in my life is trusting when I know. I know when its time to start, or pivot, or be still. I’ve learned to not wait for “feelings” of motivation, and also not to listen to the motivational messaging that seems to be everywhere these days, saying ” do it scared” “no pain no gain” “hustle hard” etc etc. Choosing ease is a skill, and balancing that choice with a commitment to move towards my dreams is an art.
I didn’t always acknowledge when I knew what was required in any given moment. But I started with looking back and reviewing my hindsight to acknowledge the exact moment when I had sensed an awareness but ignored it. This strengthened by “muscles” of acknowledging that my senses were valid. And eventually it became easy to trust my sense in a moment, and better yet- to trust my perception of the future.
For example, about 4 years ago I had adjusted my fitness routine to include more hot workouts- almost daily. At the same time I had stopped drinking my mornining celery juice, and I was not taking in electrolytes. My body started to tell me that it was out of balance – I felt fatigue ( pushed through it ), my muscle tone diminished (so I worked out more), a friend mentioned that I’d lost my glow ( I got offended), and I even passed out a few times. I ignored all of these signs, until eventually I had a seizure and fell down head first, causing a closed head injury. Instead of being shocked, I looked back over the previous few months and acknowledged all of the little signs that I’d ignored. I also chose to acknowledge the blessing in the time of rest and rehabilitation that followed as I gave my body what it needed.
That is a somewhat extreme example, though its a great example of how I know that if I don’t listen to and follow the feather-soft whispers, eventually I will have to answer to the blowing sledgehammer. I choose to be proactively aware of the whispers because that is the easiest thing to do. Waiting or putting on blinders makes life unnecessarily hard.
And I can also say here that in order to be proactively aware of what life is showing me, I have to have mental space. Since February 2018, I have used Access Consciousness Bar as a tool to “clear the hardrive” of my brain. This practice cleared the “monkey mind” that I used to live with daily, and also allowed me to be aware in the moment of when my thoughts began to spiral into distracting or even distructive thoughts. Cleaning up these thought patterns has magically cleared up a lot yuck/stuck feeling that used to take up space and keep me from being productive and proactive.
Another struggle has been learning to value my quiet seasons- the seasons of inner focus, time for mastery, and space to understand how life’s challenges are inviting me to grow. Sometimes these seasons seem to go on forever. A key to loving my life unconditionally has been developing the patience to truly enjoy these times- enjoy the work that is to be done in them, and stay fully engaged without wishing for the future while I’m “here now.” One tool for developing this patience was practicing a breathing exercise called the Shabad Kriya- it literally rewires the nervous system to experience patience, which is said to be a foundational requirement for unconditional love. The same exercise also cures insomnia and build mental resilience. Practicing that exercise has helped me to float with ease through transformational times, such as studying for bar exams and moving myself across the country.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I founded Southwind Law to provide legal protection that could uplift your vision of wellness professionals—not weigh it down. Inspired by the meaning of the South Wind—prosperity, blessings, and restoration—I bring calm clarity to legal matters so wellness professionals can build, grow, and protect their businesses with ease.
Southwind Law provides business, contract, and trademark law services for entrepreneurs in the health, fitness, and holistic wellness space. Whether they are launching a yoga brand, scaling a fitness coaching program, forming a health-conscious joint venture retreat, or safeguarding intellectual property—I offer tailored legal services that honor the unique energy of their work.
What sets me apart from many lawyers is my non-linear and non-logical approach to business. While I understand how to utilize the law to protect a business and set boundaries to optimize success, I also engage with each entity (be it a project, business, or idea) as its own unique energy with unfathomable potential. As the saying goes “where there is a will there is a way,” and I have a unique ability to acknowledge and allow the will of a business itself.
While business and contracts are my strong suit, I work with a career Intellectual Property attorney who is as creative as he is passionate when it comes to copyrights, trademarks, and service marks. He and I met in our first year of law school – which is when we each discovered our loves for our respective practice areas. Coming together to support entrepreneurs with his of Counsel assistance at Southwind Law has been nothing short of a dream come true for us.
Additionally, I rely on automated systems, outsourced creatives, a mindset coach, and an amazing law firm business coach
to assist me in growing Southwind Law in magical ways.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Currently, wellness entrepreneurs and founders can reach out for assistance with contract drafting, contract read-overs, trademark and/or copyright filings (includes research), or assistance with entity formation.
