We recently had the chance to connect with Dennis Marsico and have shared our conversation below.
Dennis, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Even though it’s August, my days are steeped in twinkle lights and tinsel as I dive headfirst into my latest project, Christmas with The Clauses. From the moment I sit down with my coffee, I’m balancing casting calls and reviewing audition notes, making sure each performer fits perfectly into our whimsical hoilday world. The afternoons are often spent writing and refining scripts, weaving in moments of humor, heart, and holiday magic, while my playlists are filled with nothing but Christmas music as I hunt for the perfect songs to capture the spirit of the show. It’s a swirl of creative chaos—casting, writing, and curating—where every decision helps bring our holiday vision to life. By the end of the day, I’m surrounded by stacks of scripts, character notes, and carols on repeat, completely forgetting that outside the world is still in summer mode.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the very first time I performed on stage and heard a laugh ripple through the audience because of something I did. It was this rush of giddy power—like I had suddenly discovered a secret ability to connect with people and move them, whether through comedy or drama. In that moment, I realized the magic of holding an audience’s attention, of giving them exactly what they were craving: entertainment. That feeling was both euphoric and deeply rewarding, and from then on, I knew there was no turning back. I wanted a life and career built around that connection, that exchange of energy, and the joy of creating moments people would never forget.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be this: Don’t give up. There will be moments when things get rocky, but look beyond the obstacles and keep moving forward. Remember—obstacles are only what you see when you take your eyes off the goal. Stay focused, trust your path, and know that being kind to yourself will make kindness to others flow naturally. You’ve got more strength, creativity, and resilience than you realize, and it will carry you exactly where you’re meant to go.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what matters most to me is family—always first, no matter what. Right behind that is having creative outlets that keep my career and passion alive. They’d tell you I sometimes face challenges quietly and internalize them, but that’s because I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure my loved ones never have to carry the same burdens. And they know I won’t sugarcoat or dance around the truth—because I’d rather be honest and real than fake.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell about me is that I was persistent and never gave up, no matter how many challenges came my way. That I rose to those challenges with determination and heart, and that I always tried to make people smile or laugh—because I understood how important fun and laughter are in life. I’d want them to say I took care of people, valued those around me, and truly lived life to its fullest.
