Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Mathis.

Hi Nicholas, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Background & Business Story – Central Florida Exterior Solutions LLC

Nick and Dalton started Central Florida Exterior Solutions after working together in another friend’s business, where they learned and mastered drainage installation and water management solutions. Over time, they became confident in handling every type of drainage project and decided to start their own company, expanding into more creative and complex exterior work.

Dalton’s work history includes restaurant kitchens, operating heavy machinery and doing tree removals, learning masonry through decorative stone work, and working his way up to foreman for a company that installs traffic signal and electrical infrastructure. Through these roles, he gained technical skills, leadership experience, and built a large network in the local community. In the business today, Dalton is co-owner, leads sales, and focuses on keeping the schedule filled.

Nick’s background includes graduating from culinary school in the Hudson Valley, running restaurants in New York and Cape Cod, and working on nonprofit agricultural projects before moving back to Central Florida. In the business, Nick handles the behind-the-scenes operations such as finances, planning, and project management, and steps in on job sites when needed.

Central Florida Exterior Solutions started with a focus on drainage but has grown to offer sod installation, landscaping, paver work, small concrete projects, retaining walls, and more. The goal is to become the one-stop company for homeowners’ exterior projects and improvements, offering both functional solutions and aesthetic upgrades.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been struggles. We have learned about the true expense of owning heavy equipment and the importance of maintenance. The winters in florida, although still nice outside, slow down the amount of customers looking for projects. Rain is an event that cannot be planned for in this state. A complete washout that has been predicted for a whole week can easily be stopped in its tracks just by texting the company chat that its a rainday enjoy your day off. And the growth of a business is way slower than you can plan for, but when its time to grow it hits you at 100 mph.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in drainage and solving the most common problem in Florida, What do we do with the wet/soggy/puddled are in my yard. We have a strong understanding of how the water flows on top and underneath the surface when it comes to anything from a summer shower to our common 10-20 min monsoons. And we know this from experience of seeing issue after issue and having to research and deliberate how to solve each and every issue. Learning from a company that was just starting in itself allows you to learn and create solutions with the assistance of the minds around you rather than just stick to a pla barked down a chain of command where one doesnt fully grasp the why or the what they just know the how.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Our company, Myself and my brother dalton are the happiest when we can meet a quality human in our daily ventures, and are able to help that person with their issues. We dont pride ourselves I being the cheapest option when it comes to this. We have figured out the amount of money we must get as a business each day in order to survive and continue to build. Our main thing is finding a solution that can fit into a budget while we still are able to make what is necessary to survive. With that said, sometimes we come it higher or right on average with other customers. But our favorite situation is when we are able to come up with an equal or better solution to a problem which we can do quicker and with cheaper material, hence we can save the customer tons of money but we are still making our margins. It is a great feeling to know that you could honestly save a customer money without having to be the guy that undercuts everyone’s prices because that just messes up the market for other honest business owners.

This would be our business happiness but it mainly spurs from both of our upbringing and we have always enjoyed going a step beyond for others. It would usually not be a huge impairment to daily life but the gratitude you would receive from helping the neighbors. Or any family memeber that needed assistance. Not to say we were martyrs or selfless humans, we just were raise that what you put into the world comes back to you and the events of our live have definitely backed up that belief.
