Inspiring Conversations with Alyssa Noel of Wright Family Values

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Noel.

Hi Alyssa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was a young girl, I would say things like, “When I get older and have my own family, I’m going to do things my way.” Usually, those statements came from experiences that made me feel hurt, disappointed, and inadequate. These experiences put me on a path of becoming a warrior for love. I started putting the pieces of the puzzle together and building strong families and supporting single women and couples in 2015 when I began my master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy. My foundation in mental health supported me in working with couples that were lacking the skills to foster healthy romantic relationships and single woman trapped in the cycle of an unhealthy dating mindset.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think there is a such thing as a smooth road when it comes to entrepreneurship or trying to accomplish something great. One of the biggest struggles for me has been balance. When I first started school, I had two children under the age of two and a husband who traveled for work, sometimes away for four weeks at a time. Balancing it all was difficult while working towards my master’s degree. Implementing a routine and making a few key changes were necessary to stay on track. It’s no secret that women tend to hold the weight of the world on their shoulders. I was no different, which was another obstacle that I faced. I felt like I had to do everything and do it well, which brought back some feelings from my childhood. One of the best things that I did was just keep going. My favorite phrase is “where you are today doesn’t have to be where you are tomorrow.” having that mindset has pushed me forward.

We’ve been impressed with Wright Family Values, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Alyssa holds a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Certified Dating & Relationship Practitioner who partners with community organizations, CEO’s and professional community to contribute meaningful knowledge and guidance. After spending half a decade working in mental health and supporting families, Alyssa has contributed in several ways and continues to contribute. The Wright Family Values evolved into Alyssa and her husband Otis coaching together to show vulnerability and transparency to educate single women and couples in their relationships with themselves and each other. To support families through the ups and downs of parenthood, Otis and Alyssa partnered up on this business venture to send a message to couples that you can overcome the challenges, breakthrough obstacles and true unconditional love still exist.

We do one on one coaching, host two live shows called The Couples Couch and A matchmaking gameshow called The Wright Way To Love. Additionally, we travel and book speaking engagements to get our message heard. Coaching as a couple allows us to share our experiences from two vantage points and provide support to both men and woman. Our speaking engagement topics include Journey to Fertility, Breakdown to Breakthrough, and Position Yourself To Be Found. Our journey is documented and shared on our YouTube channel, where we get intimate and vulnerable about our relationship with each other and ourselves during different stages of our marriage. As a family, we started an initiative called The Family That Reads. The Family that reads initiative is designed to help children improve their literacy levels and comprehension. A child who can’t read on level by grade three has an increased chance of dropping out by 19 and becoming in-prisoned. Murdoch University found that 60% of students weren’t being read to at home. The study also showed that most parents stopped reading to their kids when they learn how to read. She says, “When we read aloud to children, it is beneficial for their cognitive development, with parent-child reading activating brain areas related to narrative comprehension and mental imagery.” I’m sure if we add poverty and household dynamic to the equation and that 60% can drastically increase. We provide a resource to families that can help improve quality of life. Reading is not only fundamental but it allows your imagination to run free.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something people may not know about us is we both wanted at least six kids. We have been open about our journey with infertility but never shared we both had dreams of a big family which forced us to face some hard truths and challenges. We painfully endured five miscarriages and two high-risk pregnancies that we never saw coming. Because of this, we have had to find peace within our family and are grateful for our three children.
