Inspiring Conversations with Ashley Morgan of Fit ‘N Fierce of West Orange

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Morgan.

Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I never loved fitness and truly had a hard time getting myself to stay consistent in my workout routines. The only thing that really motivated me was group fitness classes because I loved the energy. Still, I hadn’t found one that I 100% resonated with until the day I found HIGH Fitness. The first time I tried a class was in my living room during Covid, but even then, it only took one class and I was HOOKED. This format that blends old-school aerobics with modern HIIT-style workouts, all set to popular music we all know and love, was something I instantly connected with. I quickly found a class in my area, started attending regularly, and was certified shortly after to teach it. I’ve since expanded the scope of what I do, but I learned that everyone can love fitness. It’s just about finding something that truly brings you joy and makes you excited to show up.

Maddy Owens attended one of my classes and absolutely loved the format. It was the perfect addition to what the Fit ’N Fierce collective needed. I’ve been with Fit ’N Fierce since its inception, and my role has grown alongside the company. In addition to coaching, I also serve as the Client Experience Coordinator and help lead grassroots marketing efforts to connect with the community and grow our collective.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worthwhile in life comes without its challenges. The biggest one for me has been imposter syndrome. Being fairly new to the industry, it’s easy to feel like I’m not experienced enough or that someone else could do it better. This especially comes out when class sizes fluctuate. I’ve learned that everyone has something unique and special to offer and that everyone starts somewhere. I just keep doing my best to continue growing and showing up. The outpouring of support from the community keeps me going!

And I think that’s something that applies to Fit ’N Fierce as a whole, too. As a newer, growing collective, we’ve had our share of learning curves – finding balance between expansion and sustainability, figuring out what systems work best, and building awareness in a saturated fitness market. But just like in class, we keep showing up. The community’s support, energy, and belief in what we’re building fuels us. Every challenge has helped us refine our mission and grow stronger as a team and as a collective.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fit ‘N Fierce of West Orange?
What I love most about Fit ’N Fierce of West Orange is that it’s a community-driven fitness collective offering group workouts across West Orange County. What makes us special is that we’re truly designed for neighbors, by neighbors. All of our coaches live in the area and are deeply connected to the community.

We specialize in creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where people of all fitness levels can train, grow, and connect. We’re known for our energy and variety – from dance and strength to mobility and cross-training – and for making every person who walks through our doors feel seen and supported.

What sets us apart is that we’re more than just workouts. We love bringing people together through community events and experiences. I teach our Line Dance Nights once a month and lead line dance and aerobics classes for our 55+ community partner, Vibrant West Orange. I also coordinate our Parents’ Night Out events, which give families a fun and healthy way to stay engaged with us.

Fit ’N Fierce is about connection, confidence, and community. We are where movement meets motivation, and where people find a sense of belonging.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
BE YOURSELF! Learning from other instructors is amazing, but no one has what you have. Trying to be like someone else will only lower your confidence. Keep going, lean into what lights your soul on fire, and that will translate to your participants. If you’re having the best time and spreading that energy in the room, it’s hard for others not to feel the same.

Also, get feedback from your participants. Your job is to create a safe, enjoyable space for them to move their bodies. Pay attention to what’s working, what you can do to improve their experience, and how you can boost their confidence. Feeling intimidated is a huge reason why people put off going to a class, so it’s your job to show them there’s a space for EVERY BODY!

And to anyone thinking about getting started in fitness, whether as an instructor or participant… just start. I began as someone taking classes, and now I’m helping run a fitness company that builds community through movement. You never know where saying “yes” to one class might take you.
