Today we’d like to introduce you to Judi Prinzivalli.
Hi Judi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Coming from strong Italian roots, and inheriting a passion for cooking passed down from my parents and generations before, my husband and I started a small boutique catering company in 2018. Unfortunately, when the world shut down in 2020, so did catering orders.
I immersed myself in binge watching Shark Tank episodes and after hearing others tell their stories to the panel, I recognized that I wanted to continue with my passion, but through baking.
I have memories of being a young child {8, 9, 10 years old} in my mother’s kitchen, making homemade chocolate chip cookies on a random Friday night, doing my best impression of Julia Child, and talking to my imaginary audience.
Working in the corporate industry for over 30 years taught me the skills needed to make others feel heard. It’s imperative to have the skill to listen to others and to share in their joy.
I initially started baking for friends and acquaintances, while honing in on self-teaching and quality service. Adjudicake came to fulfillment in 2021 and has become a beacon of hard work, dedication, and growth.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The best success and lessons in life are only fulfilled through struggles along the way; at least in my opinion!
Having to accept that our catering business was not going to survive brought sadness, sorrow, and a sense of failure. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing time-honored recipes to my customers.
Building up an inventory of baking equipment, tools, and supplies took some time. Additionally, endless hours of watching You-Tube videos and self-taught practice, learning how ingredients interact with one another, and throwing away endless batches of {my now signature} Swiss Meringue Buttercream often times made me question my “passion” versus my “ability” to make Adjudicake a success.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Adjudicake is a “small batch from scratch” boutique cakery, specializing in custom-made cakes. We offer a variety of flavors, options, and sizes to fit any celebration.
While most people are accustomed to the icing on commercial cakes, what they don’t know are ingredients that are used {shortening, high fructose corn syrup; etc.} Additionally, many cakes are covered in tasteless fondant.
Our signature light, fluffy and DELICIOUS Swiss Meringue Buttercream {4 simple ingredients: eggs, sugar, vanilla, and butter} provides the ultimate finish.
We are known for excellent customer service, treating every order as the MOST IMPORTANT, and using only quality ingredients. Nothing is mass produced, and we do not use preservatives. Our focus is dedication to flavor and quality.
One thing that delights me most is when a customer provides their inspiration photos, and then making those cakes come to life. It’s challenging and exciting, and to watch their reaction, when I do the “reveal” upon pick-up or delivery, makes it all worthwhile.
We also provide Gluten-Free, Vegan, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Soy-Free options.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
It is imperative to create a connection with each customer, to make them feel they are heard, and to get them excited about what they are ordering. It sounds silly that people get excited over a cake … but they do!!
Unfortunately, our society has {too quickly} become less interactive with one-another and more about “I want it now”.
Quality Customer Service … hands down, has been the most important component in the success of Adjudicake.
