Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Heafner.
Hi Zoe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Zoe Heafner and I am a lifestyle photographer and filmmaker from Winter Park, Florida! I’ve always had a passion for capturing special moments, so why not make it my job? I started in competitive filmmaking in 7th grade and decided to make it my career. I attend UCF while getting a bachelor’s in fine arts degree in Film while running my business simultaneously. In the summer of 2019, I worked in Los Angeles for a summer, and it is my dream to go back and start a career there in music video and documentary directing. When covid hit in 2020, I decided to start my own business and dive into filming weddings on the side of school!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting any business is difficult when first starting out; self-doubt is a huge problem, so many others have. Luckily I have had so many people around me encourage me to keep going, and I’m glad I did because although I don’t know where my next steps will take me, I’m having fun learning along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In 2020 I started my business doing photography for sororities in the winter park area. Then I began to look into weddings and got my start in filming styled wedding shoots. After I did these for a while and built my portfolio, I started to get hired for real weddings. I love making wedding films because of the high-pressure environment and the idea that you have one shot to capture it. I am so proud of my brand because every client I have, I feel that I have become their friend. My job is to capture huge moments in their lives, and I want them to feel like they had someone they connected with filming that day. My services not only apply to everyday events like weddings and senior shoots, but I also do a lot of work for photographers in the industry that need video content!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always loved making videos since I was little, and even before competitive filmmaking, I was making fun videos at home with my friends and family. I played softball for most of my childhood, but once I discovered that film could be a full-time hobby, that’s all I did. I grew up in a household that encouraged my dreams beyond compare. Going into this field was something they were very excited about and helped me achieve it in any way possible. They are a huge reason I can do what I do today.
