Today we’d like to introduce you to Nova Classica.
Hi Nova, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We originally got our start as part of Best in Brass, a premier brass ensemble founded in 2019 by trombonist Joey Vascik and trumpeter William Cooper. As Best in Brass grew, we started getting more and more requests for string ensembles and orchestras. We realized we needed to expand our string ensemble offerings. That’s where cellist Abigail Collins came in. She joined the team in 2024 to coordinate our string ensembles, and Nova Classica Strings officially launched in December 2024. We primarily perform as a string quartet for weddings, concerts, and events. We also frequently collaborate with our Best in Brass musicians on larger projects. Our core quartet is Galen Kaup and Ashley Nelson (violin), Joe Henderson (viola), and Abigail Collins (cello), complemented with a broad network of top-notch professional string players all over Central Florida.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Finding and keeping the best local musicians is tough because they’re always in high demand. We work hard to keep our performance quality and repertoire top-tier. We’ve spent countless hours creating high-quality audio and video, and building our music library. This prep work is key so we can play a huge variety of genres for any audience or occasion. That work is always challenging and time consuming, but we’ve been met with great attitudes from our players and gratitude from our patrons.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Nova Classica specializes in crafting customized live music experiences to perfectly fulfill our clients’ visions, creating a unique “magic” for every event. We thrive on bringing dreams to life, whether it’s fulfilling a bride’s specific song request for her walk down the aisle or collaborating on wonderfully creative song choices for any couple’s wedding. This focus on performing new music continually expands our repertoire and experience.
Beyond weddings, we work with venues and event planners to develop themed concerts featuring new and unique arrangements of favorite artists and genres. We also elevate milestone celebrations and corporate dinners by providing elegant ambient music. This approach keeps our work exciting as musicians and ensures each event is unique and memorable for the client and their guests.
What’s next?
Since we started Nova Classica in late 2024, we’ve had a year of awesome growth and are now really focused on getting out there more in the community. We’re still busy with weddings and private parties, but we’re also actively planning more public concerts. We love performing in the wonderful small, cozy venues in and around Orlando to bring the music right up close to our audience. People really enjoy hearing our classical string quartet play their favorite film scores, throwbacks, modern pop hits, and classic rock, and we absolutely thrive on sharing the energy of great music with new audiences.
