Conversations with Jianna Timmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jianna Timmons.

Hi Jianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing at the age of six, and what began as a fun hobby quickly turned into a lifelong passion. By the time I was seven, I was competing regionally and nationally, and that early experience taught me discipline, resilience, and the joy of performing. Over the years, I have trained in a wide variety of dance styles from Ballet and Jazz to Contemporary and Hip-Hop, continually pushing myself to grow and refine my craft.

After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in Dance and a minor in Event Management, I began building my career as a choreographer and educator. I’ve had the privilege of choreographing for collegiate performances, competitive dance teams, and working with dancers of all ages. Along the way, I realized my true passion lies in helping other dancers discover their confidence, creativity, and love for movement.

Founding Artistry in Motion Dance Company allowed me to create a space where dancers can grow, explore, and be inspired. Every step of my journey has been about aiming higher, both for myself and for the students I teach.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, especially when I launched Artistry in Motion Dance Company in 2021 as a traveling choreography business. Starting solo meant I was responsible for everything, creating choreography, coordinating with teams and studios, marketing myself, and building trust with dancers and parents.

One of the biggest challenges was proving that even without a physical studio, I could deliver high-quality, impactful choreography that dancers loved and performed with confidence. Traveling to different studios and events also required adaptability and careful planning, but it taught me how to be resourceful, resilient, and creative in every situation.

Looking back, those early struggles shaped the business and strengthened my approach. They reminded me that success comes from persistence, passion, and focusing on the impact I can make for every dancer I work with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creating custom choreography for competitive teams, studios, and individual dancers across a variety of styles, including Hip-Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, and etc. I’m known for creating routines that highlight each dancer’s strengths while pushing them creatively and technically, helping them perform with confidence and artistry.

What I’m most proud of is seeing dancers grow not just in skill, but in confidence and self-expression. I love when a team comes together, executes a routine I’ve choreographed, and truly connects with the performance. That feeling of impact is why I do what I do.

What sets me apart is my hands-on, personalized approach. I’m deeply involved in every step, from concept to execution. I take the time to understand each dancer or team, tailoring choreography to their unique strengths, goals, and style. My focus is always on helping dancers tell a story, express themselves, and leave every stage feeling proud.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that persistence and adaptability are everything. Launching Artistry in Motion Dance Company in 2021 as a traveling business taught me that challenges are inevitable, but how you respond makes all the difference. From coordinating with multiple studios, adjusting to different teams’ needs, and navigating the logistics of travel, I’ve learned to stay flexible while staying true to my vision.

I’ve also learned the value of truly investing in the dancers I work with listening, understanding their strengths, and helping them grow both technically and creatively. At the end of the day, success isn’t just about choreography or awards it’s about the confidence, growth, and joy I get to inspire in every dancer I work with.
