Today we’d like to introduce you to Lara Asous.
Hi Lara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story began a little over ten years ago. After my divorce, I knew I wanted to do something meaningful—something that helped people, relationships, and families heal. I had always been drawn to psychology because it made sense to me, especially as I began to understand how trauma can resurface and impact us later in life. During that time, I felt called to give back and to help others navigate the same kinds of pain and confusion I had gone through.
That led me to pursue a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy so I could support individuals, couples, and families not only in strengthening their relationships, but also in healing from trauma, rebuilding their confidence, and feeling truly seen. I wanted to create a space where people felt safe, validated, and understood—a space with no judgment, where anyone could show up exactly as they are.
I didn’t want others to feel the deep hurt and isolation I once felt, but since I can’t control the challenges life brings, I knew I could at least help people heal from them. My goal has always been to empower clients, help them recognize their worth, support healthier relationships, and create stronger families. That mission continues to guide me in the work I do every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been easy. As a single mom going back to school, working full-time, and completing my master’s program—especially during my clinical hours—I had to constantly balance being a parent, a student, and a professional. When I later moved to Florida, I faced a new challenge of finding another site to complete my hours and rebuilding that balance all over again. It often felt like the universe kept throwing curveballs that forced me to pause, adapt, and reevaluate. But those challenges made me more empathetic, more compassionate, and more committed to this career. Instead of giving up, I realized that this work is my purpose. Every obstacle has shaped me into a stronger person and ultimately a better therapist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I own a private practice called Mindful Growth Therapy, which I started a little over a year ago. I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern working under supervision, and after years in various organizations, I realized that although I was grateful for those opportunities, they didn’t fully align with my mission or the kind of therapist I wanted to be. I wanted to build a practice that felt more genuine, empathetic, and understanding—a truly safe space where people feel seen, valued, and supported. Mindful Growth Therapy reflects that vision. I provide mental health services for individuals, couples, families, trauma survivors, and immigrants adjusting to new environments. Because I speak Arabic, I am also passionate about supporting Middle Eastern clients who may feel hesitant or discouraged from seeking therapy due to cultural stigma. My goal is to help them feel understood, represented, and comfortable accessing mental health care. I also offer discounted rates, bundled sessions, and special pricing for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and families to ensure therapy remains affordable and accessible. Ultimately, I want to make people’s lives better by offering compassionate, culturally sensitive, and meaningful care in a place they can trust.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is defined by how I feel on the inside—by knowing I am living with purpose and being a strong role model for my daughters. Success means having them look at me with pride and knowing I’m showing them what resilience and dedication look like. It also means honoring my father, who passed away before I began this journey and remains my biggest inspiration. I like to think he is looking down at me, proud of who I’ve become. Success, to me, is knowing that if I can help even one person feel better, safer, or more empowered, then I’m making a real difference. Ultimately, success is about not giving up—no matter how many challenges or setbacks you face—continuing to believe in your dreams and finding the motivation to keep moving forward.
