Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Meyer.
Hi Dustin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story is a bit complicated, growing up coming from a family of regular lower middle class workers and a split household, I found myself caught in the middle of family always. From a young age, about 8 or 9 years old, I started scratching the business itch through trading and accumulating rare Pokémon and Yugioh cards during their peak in the early 00s.
What is even more interesting, was my passion for business and finance actually stemmed from two unlikely sources, the online videos MMORPG’s RuneScape and World of Warcraft, where within the games, they had a trade and auction house style system, where you can buy and sell items for in game currency.
Fast forward to my high school years, where I never had a traditional job, but I found myself in the hustle of mowing yards, and detailing cars to earn enough money to fund my hobby of online gaming and eventually car stereo upgrades. This time was also when I was still in deep with playing baseball, so those skills and competitiveness translated into the other aspects of my life.
It wasn’t until after high school where I started working then starting “side hustles” to earn more money for various things, where I ended up working at a Nike store, and saw the early opportunity to make money buying and selling rare or exclusive releases (no I didn’t use my discount ever for ethical reasons), and found good success in doing that to the point where nearly every weekend, I was purchasing the flipping up to 4 new pairs of sneakers, making a decent side money, more than my regular job. There came a point, where I thought about how I could capitalize on that, and my first natural idea was for apparel to match new release sneakers, leading to my first venture in business and more importantly, my first website I ever created back in 2012.
The years following, I experimented with probably 5 or 6 different business ideas, from apparel to detailing, and even dropshipping which in 2016 I was relatively successful at, even though I didn’t see it fully through as my first daughter was born in 2017. Shortly after, I noticed a Facebook friend that needed website help, naturally I reached out and landed my first web design client for an eCommerce website.
Since, I’ve worked with nearly 100 small businesses over the years, large franchises, clients from around the world, and more.
Where I’m now in a position, where I’m growing our sales team, adding parallel revenue streams (I run another quite successful eCommerce store as well), and are positioning to continue to serve our community as a leader in small businesses web design and SEO.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Business is never a smooth road, as a first in my family business owner, first masters degree holder, among other things, I face many challenges, mostly with relinquishing total control and allowing for myself to grow a team around me to reach the business goals that I’ve set out for myself many years ago.
We’ve been impressed with Libra Web and Marketing Solutions , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Started officially in 2018 we are a full service web design and SEO company that specializes in small businesses web design, SEO, plugin development, and consulting.
My goal has always been to position the business as a leader that is not only delivering exceptional services, but with a hometown touch of amazing and personal customer service, acting as an extension of our clients teams, versus a hired company.
The company was put together to truly make an impact on local mom and pop businesses, shops, and lives, leading us to have arguably the most competitive pricing for the value that we deliver, while having actual availability locally to put ourselves in the shoes of our clients to create tailored website and SEO plans that actually drive results.
We have an array of simple, affordable solutions to get any business owner started with our company, and typically we retain our clients for years not just a one and done type of service.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Often, you’ll find mentors in not the most obvious places, think outside of LinkedIn. But more importantly, you can find mentorship every day, in every interaction or experience that you have, whether having a chat with a client, at the store, or watching content online. Learning is the most important thing in life, and should never be stopped. As cliche as it sounds, read books on business and leadership, or even philosophy.
