Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Paull.
Hi Caleb, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I spent 18 years in Massachusetts, before spending 5 years traveling and living in Colorado, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and ultimately landed in Orlando in January 2020. I moved here for a sales role under a longtime friend and mentor, and to be closer to extended family in Southwest Florida.
2 months later, covid happened, and slowed down the process of getting plugged into the community, which resulted in me spending a lot of time in Southwest FL on the weekends with my cousins. But Monday through Friday I continued to put my head down and work like a maniac, connecting with people on Linkedin, calling on orphan clients, and any other way I could get in front of people.
After finishing 2020 as the top performer on our sales team, I joined The Citrus Club, Downtown Orlando as a member in Spring of 2021 with the goal of meeting people, and building my network here. After some time, I became more involved in the club community, joining committees, and participating in more activities. in 2023, I was offered a role as Director of Membership, and officially joined the team in August. I spent almost two years helping the club expand it’s Young Executive Member Base, and creating a “networking with nonprofits” event series, called The Citrus Social.
In addition to hosting social events around town, I have facilitated trainings and workshops on the topics of networking, social intelligence, and relationship building.
Throughout the past few years, I have attended hundreds of networking events across Greater Orlando, building a professional network, and could not be more grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. Additionally, 4 out of my 6 siblings have now transitioned to Orlando, and we are blessed to do life together here.
I now serve as an Account Executive for Better Talent, bringing affordable hiring solutions to the marketplace. We work with small to medium sized businesses as a fractional talent acquisition team, helping them attract and retain talent. Our primary objective is to help growing organizations put the right people in the right seats, and to hire around “proven predictors”. Such as; core values, structured interviews, and personality assessments.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Moving to a city I knew nothing about to work in an industry I knew nothing about two months before covid happened, was certainly a challenge. I have found myself stepping into three brand new industries over the past 7 years, and in a position of building a pipeline completely from scratch. It has forced me to lean heavily into mentorship, coaching, networking, and being okay with sounding like a novice in my space, because I was.
Moral of the story? I am deeply familiar with the feeling of being unknown and uncomfortable in new environments, which has increased my love for building and helping others to build strong community.
Looking back, I have to come to learn and cherish the stark reality that difficulty breeds resilience, uncertainty breeds patience, and pain breeds perspective. From the separation of my parents at an early age, to a life altering car accident at 19, I have experienced my fair share of battles. But as a result, have developed a greater passion and deeper empathy, something I wouldn’t trade for the world.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work for a company called Better Talent, which is a Talent Acquisition and Optimization Team. Our team helps companies build their team, by partnering with them through a low cost model, and a singular objective of attracting and retaining talent.
We work with companies across the country in many different industries, helping you hire for any roles. We are a fraction of the cost of hiring an external recruiter, or hiring your own internal recruiter, with no percentage based fees, ever. We instead become an extension of your current team, and help you optimize all things around hiring, along with sourcing, and talent screening.
Think of us like your fractional recruiting partner, without the high costs, and headhunters. Just a dedicated team who is here to help you put the right people in the right seats, and keep them.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
You have nothing in life without risk. Risk of failure, risk of vulnerability, risk of disappointment, risk of rejection. I certainly aim to take more of the calculated risks by surrounding myself with a strong circle of mentors and council, which also helps me avoid unnecessary risk. However, there are times in life and in business when you ask the right questions, get the right advice, and still have to take a risk. And on the other side comes the tremendous reward of lived experiences, perspectives, lessons, resilience and grit – something that no amount of money could “buy”.
